So I hear that you can upgrade your hdd on your macbook... This is very good news for me because I can get a larger hdd for cheaper than configuring a macbook with a larger one. The question is, when you buy a new macbook does it come with and actual OS X reinstall cd?

Perfect, does upping the hard drive void the warranty? Also, how difficult is it to get to the hard drive and are there any special formats I should look for (this will be my first mac)?

No it does not void the warranty, however it does void the warranty if you do it on the Macbook Pro but the Macbook its fine. Really its just removing the battery, then removed some screws from this L bracket that surrounds the battery bay, then you will see a like a white slip sticking out, thats where the HDD is, you just out out the drive and put in the new one and then your done, just put everything back together. I don't have a link right now to the site that shows how with pictures, maybe someone else will post it for you.

    Good luck.

I'm confused by that as well bandaid.. did you mean it comes with the disk, or the just an image of the disk on the HDD?
It should come with an actual dvd of OS X... at least the MBP does.

What he means is that OS X does not use an installer. It blasts an image onto the hard drive. Vista will incorporate the same thing. One of XP's shortcomings is that it still uses an installer. So yes it is an image, it is just an image on a DVD.
