Nice. That's a quick boot time! Now if only those drives were affordable.
Shame that youtube has so many flame and troll comments. It's like 12 year olds figured out how to use the internet and all gathered on Youtube.
They would dare say that to me if I had a Macbook Pro in the laptop mount in the hearse -
Yeah Ryan Block did a video just like it sometime ago, but with a 64GB SSD instead, it was freakin quick too. I'm hoping prices will drop and capacities will go up fast, because I'm really tempted to purchase a more capacious but traditional hdd, since 120gb isn't really enough for my mbp. Just for win xp I use 32GB and I'm almost out of space there, games take a LOT of space nowadays.
-
They would be great for my laptop use, but unfortunately this toughbook doesn't have SATA... so it'd be a waste.
My desktop though, it'll be a few years before they make them affordable enough. I'm using well over half a terabyte to store my crap, and I've got a whole terabyte free. It'll get filled before long. -
Crazy, I clocked the bootup speed at 20 seconds. My MB boots up in ~31 seconds and that is with 4gb ram and 7200rpm drive.
-
The boot time is irrelevant as not many people do it on a hourly basis. What's important is the copying performance, program opening speed, responsiveness. If you can't feel **** you wasted a few thousand dollars.

Yeah, you'll get half a minute at most per restart...you could write in book during that time
.

I think I smell sarcasm...lol. No but really, it's more than 30 seconds! I can't test right now because I'm downloading the prey demo, but when it's done I will post.

64gb = $999
128gb = !!!! -
stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?

00fez, it was meant to be sarcastic. The last time I checked the prices (less than a month ago) the 128GB SSD had a price tag of more than 2k. Is that worth it? I'd really say no.
-
-
It's not worth it. 2+k for 128GB? I'd rather eat the damn thing.
-
I think the point of it is more to show off the tech. SSD's will be the future of drives.
They will provide better read/write speed as well, so you do get some benefit out of it. It's out of my price range, but some people are already looking for a faster option, and for those people that NEED it, this is it.
Once the technology is mature (Which will involve people trying out the existing stuff!), it'll come down in price dramatically and have larger sizes.
Do you remember when 10MB drives were "The last hard drive you'll ever need"? And they cost $5000... I sure do. -

Late 80's. I think '87 or '88.
