Just wanted to know if anyone here has bought any of the previous generation Macbook pro's through Apple's clearance section?

I was intending to buy the new macbook pro, but there wasnt enough in Apple's upgrades for me to shell out 2k. Dont really see that much off a major difference, other than the design. So I'm considering buying the older macbook pro through their clearance section.

Anybody have any experience buying a notebook this way? Are they customizable ,able to upgrade RAM, HD?

There isn't anything wrong with buying through the Clearance/Refurb section. In the Clearance case, it will still be a new in box product. Unfourtunately, this means your BTO is out considering they are doing that only for the newer model now. You will still be able to upgrade the RAM and HD, just either on your own or at an Apple store.

    I'd definitely say get them.

The "old" 2.4GHz 15" Penryn's are an absolute steal at $1349.

Think of it this way, the old MBP has a much faster CPU and GPU, much better screen (matte too!) and cooler backlit keyboard (just IMO), and more ports (FW400 AND FW800!) than the new 2GHz MB. Get the new MB only if you must have the smaller form factor.

The new MB's case is much better designed though (although I prefer the old MBP's look).

The refurb store has them for $1349.

I'm not sure, but I thought that Apple sometimes lumps their older models into the Refurb store. Even when they're in the Clearance section. I know a few people that have ordered from the Refub section and gotten new items (they got real boxes, instead of the cardboard refurb boxes).

Regardless though, I'd recommend getting refurb'd over new if possible :p

I purchased my macbook from the refurb section. It came in a brown box but the computer itself was like new. Not even a fingerprint on the shiny white case.

Apple likely replaced the case. In any event, nice choice and congrats
