Hey there, I noticed the comparitive 3DMark '06 Score here on NBR was
(Apple MacBook Pro (2.40GHz Core 2 Duo Intel T7700, NVidia 8600M 256MB) 4,674 3D Marks)
I have the same notebook and under Bootcamp/Vista I'm currently running the 163.75 drivers and only got 4022
Can anyone explain to me why my results were 652 points off? Is it because that was run with XP and I am using Vista?
I used the basic free edition for 3DMark..
Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Most likely. NVIDIA's Vista drivers aren't nearly as mature as they are for XP. -
Are you sure the resolution in 3DMark06 was the same for both benchmarks?
The score you got (4022) is on par with running the benchmark at a 1400x900 resolution and I think the 4674 mark is stgben's score at a resolution of only 1024x768. -
Yes, 4674 is at 1024x768 and 4022 is pretty good(but it's at 1280*1024 I believe which is standard for free 3dmark06) for Vista especially

You're right, the default resolution for 3DMark06 Basic is not 1400x900. I meant to say 1440x900, still not the default though.
The difference in 3DMarkd06 scores between 1280x1024 and 1440x900 is fairly small though. However, the default resolution for 3DMark06 Basic depends on the native resolution of the display. If we're talking about the 17" MBP, the default resolution in 3DMark06 Basic should be 1280x1024, but if we're talking about the 15" MBP it should be 1280x854. A 3DMark06 score of 4022 @ 1280x854 is right where it should be for the 2.4GHz MBP with 8600m GT. -
Resolution is the likely culprit, though it is important to note two things: Vista will lower your score, and your score will vary from run to run at all times. You can run it twice in the same day, and it will vary by 50 points. It's just a synthetic benchmark in any case; the real world game and 3D performance is what matters.

nay - this strange resolution was the problem with the early drivers or early version of 3dmark06(?) - dunno, but on my 15" mbp the default resolution in 3dmark06 free version is 1280x1024

Ohh ok, I assumed that 3DMark Basic/Free ran for everyone at a single resolution. I have the 15.4" MBP at 1440x900 resolution. Glad to hear it was normal I didn't think with my tweaks and whatnot that it could possibly be off by that many points.
Thanks everyone
