    Macbook Pro Battery Life Problem

    I have a Macbook Pro I bought in summer 2007, and I'm have concerns about its battery life, and so I was wondering if anyone could help me please. :eek:

    I hardly ever use my laptop away from my desk, so it's plugged in all the time. While plugged in, I still keep the battery in the laptop. It's only been through 10 cycles in 2 years, and I know I should've calibrated it monthly, but I didn't and I really wish I had now. Right now, when unplugged, my battery only lasts about half an hour. I downloaded coconutBattery and apparently, my original battery capacity was 5600 mAh, and now it's only 543 mAh.

    My question is, did I mess up the battery myself by not calibrating it, or was the battery defective in the first place? :S Or is it just old?

    I'm a real n00b when it comes to computers....but if this ISN'T my fault, the laptop is under an Apple Care Protection Plan, and so would that cover the battery? Is there any way to fix it without getting a new battery?

    Any input would be appreciated, thank you! :)

    The lack of cycles is the culprit in this case. You need to buy another battery.

    In other words: You killed the battery yourself.

    If you never use the battery when you come to use it your warranty might have run out and your will have to pay for a replacement.

    But If you run the calibration program every couple of months and you notice a big decrease in capacity you can get apple to replace it for free in warranty., is it 12months on apple battery , I have heard some manufactures only give 6 months.

    Does apple care extended warranty cover battery`s ???

    Yes, Applecare does cover battery replacement.

    @MNG24 - My battery was probably not in a poor condition as yours, but I had no issues replacing the battery. Tell them about the battery life and they will check your battery's current conditions. I'm sure when you tell them about poor battery life, they will replace it for you.

    Thank you guys so much! :) I just called and they were willing to 'make a one time exception' and send me a new battery. YAY :D I'll be sure to take care of it this time haha

    May that be a lesson to you. Kill your battery regularly. A dead battery is a happy battery.
