Hi!
I'm looking to get a unibody Macbook Pro.
However, the Apple upgrades seem a bit overpriced, so I'm looking to get upgrade them myself.
So a multitude of questions.
1) Is opening the unibody Macbook Pro to replace the memory hard? I know it's easy to replace the hard drive, but what about the memory? Is it dangerous?
2) I'm on Newegg and I'm seeing special "Mac memory", as evidenced here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146878
Is the special "Mac memory" really necessary or can I just go with the $10 cheaper pair seen here:

3) Last time I was at the Apple Store, I remember a guy there saying something about, "Well, memory, we can upgrade for you here..." Does that mean if I were to buy memory and bring it into the store with an MBP they would put it in for me (for free?)?
4) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280
Would the above drive work fine with the unibody MBP? Does anyone have any experience with it?
Thanks!

The ram you choose is expensive, look at this hot smoking deal: 35$ After MIR

Uh that is the wrong type of RAM he needs. He is much better off sticking to what he originally linked to.

That won't work.
The new MBs/MBPs use 1066Mhz RAM. That's not the right speed. -
It's DDR2 to begin with...
Can anyone answer if the Mac needs the specially labeled Mac RAM or if it can do with the non Mac labeled RAM?
As well as the hard drive?
And the Apple Store upgrading stuff?

It's generic meaning you can use any that's the right type.

Actually, it's DDR3. -

1. Memory from Apple for the unibody MBP is actually not that overpriced. I believe it's about $150 or $135 with student discount. So buying and installing your own isn't that big of a deal, unlike how it used to be. You'll save about $25, give or take. If you don't feel like opening your MBP up (it's harder than swapping out the hard drive, but not impossibly difficult), let Apple put the RAM in. On the plus side, it's covered under your warranty. The resale market for 2GB of 1067 RAM is nonexistent anyway.
2. If you decide to buy it and install yourself, you don't need to buy "mac memory." That's just a lame mark up.
Here's a disassembly guide for getting to the RAM slots:

3. No. They won't put in third party memory. He meant they will upgrade you at the store with Apple memory for Apple's upgrade price, which is $150/$135.
4. Yes it will work specs-wise. I don't own that drive or the unibody MBP, so that's about all I can say there. Read the user reviews, generally there will be at least a couple of mac users who have posted their experience.
