    Macbook Pro and Merom

    Dear all,

    I was going to buy a MBP in either June or July..... but i've heard that the Merom processor will be out in the MBP around Aug/Sept time?

    Has anyone heard the same thing and is there anyone in this forums that is holding out for Rev B / Merom series?

    My best guess would be when the 17in mbp comes out it will be when memrom is and it will prolly have it. but this is just my own theory with nothing to back it up.

    Apple delayed their big conference until August, so I think you'll find that's when the Apple notebooks with Merom will be released, as well as some of their first desktops running intel processors. August is also the approximate release time of Intel's Merom processor, so it would make sense.

    Ok that's good news then. I'll hold out until then i guess.

    I'd be pretty gutted if i spend £1700 in July to find out a month later they are shipping 64bit cpu's.

    .. just remember that merom is just the processor. true - it will improve performance a bit and add 64bit - however, the whole system update will follow q1 (or q2) of 2007. this will include a new graphics and wireless chipset, higher frontsidebus, new wifi etc and really improve performance.
    it is definitly worth waiting for merom if you have not preassure whatsoever to get a notebook now - but don't expect a huge performance jump - 64bit won't do that much for you.

    The current Napa platform is compatible with the Merom. So if you fancy voiding your guarantee at the release, you could buy a Merom and install it in your MacBook Pro.

    I have been told on MacRoumers that it is delayed until 2007. I think i'm just going to buy one in Aug anyway.

    Dont think i'll see much difference with 64bit.

    That's probably Vista. Merom should arrive a good 2-3 months before the release of Vista.
