Hi all,
I have a Macbook Pro 15 here, early 2011 model, and it's running really slowly - about 3 minutes to boot up (if it boots at all). Also other strange behaviour in that when I close it down, something inside seems to continue running for a while, and when I try to turn it on again, the response to the power button seems extremely delayed, and requires multiple presses. At one point it decided it didn't want to charge from my charger too, and just sat there at 87% not charging (but reports that the battery condition is normal).
Any ideas what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance.

What is your exact config? CPU, Storage, Mem?
Did you:
PRAM Reset?
Diagnost cs?
AHT?
You can always take it into an Apple Store and they'll give it a quick diagnostic check. I did that with a few 2011 Mac Pro 17's. One was the GPU, other was a logic board issue.

It's the early 2011 Macbook pro 15, 2.2GHz Core i7, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD,6750M
I did a PRAM reset but it didn't seem to help.
I tried to launch a hardware test, but the machine is not responding to the command - it just sits on a grey screen for about 1 minute while I hold the D key down and then starts booting the OS anyway. -
It's now stuck in a weird error loop at boot - "Panic CPU X caller" (and a bunch of other text, where X is a different number each time).
It will boot from a USB with El Capitan, but will not install the OS to the HDDLast edited: Jun 5, 2016 -

I would set up an online appointment with your nearest Apple Store and have them run their in store diagnostic. It is free and will most likely point to a logic board issue. I had what I didn't realize was a water damaged Macbook Pro 17 Early 2011 (2.2, 750, 6750) start to exhibit the near same symptoms. It was covered under Applecare but once they opened it up, they reported water damage and closed it back up and the only fix was an out of warranty logic board replacement.
You could always test the HD independently by removing it and attaching it to another Mac or PC (along with backup / retrieve your data if you haven't already). -
Can you boot from recovery and do a fresh install stright from the Apple server? If memory serves, it's done by holding down the alt button when you hear that stupid 'bong' sound as you turn on the system.
Tbh it kinda sounds hardware related so a trip to the Apple Store won't hurt... Sorry if that's the problem - logic board prices aren't exactly cheap. I ended up picking up a used logic board from ebay and replacing it with that. Still running fine three years later, despite the initial concerns i had as to how long a used board would last. -
Some progress: I think it was refusing to install to HDD after PRAM reset because it thought it was 2001. Had to reset date in the terminal. Have installed to a 500GB HDD I found in a drawer, and now it's booting up in ~40 seconds and shutting down a bit quicker. Not sure if it's stable yet though - that Panic error has me worried.
