    Hi there,

I had an annoying experience today and I'm really hoping someone can help me. Please bear in mind I am not gifted when it comes to computers :(

So I was due to give a presentation today in college and brought my Mac in together with the cabel for attaching the Mac to the Video Projector thing on the ceiling...VGA or summat.

So the Video projector thing came on, I turned on Mac and I couldn't get the picture from my screen to appear on the college screen. It's supposed to detect the image of the external devise immediately, right?
I tried pressing F7, with various different combinations ( I had a Dell before this Mac, and that used to work). The Mac didn't seem to be aware it was hooked up to anything at all. So I restarted the VGA (if that's what it is) and then I restarted my laptop and it conked out. Restart does not seem to bode well with this laptop. It invariably comes back on with only the background light, no little Apple icon or timer to show the processor is going to turn on. So no presentation for me today.

Anyho, the laptop has now restarted after a two hour break. But I have to present tomorrow. Has anyone any idea why I couldn't project my powerpoint over to the college projector screen on the wall?

I would be very, very grateful!!!

I do not know, but my macbook pro works perfectly. Here is the possible solution: turn off your comupter and projector. Turn on the projector first, then turn on the computer.

Sorry to hear that, but my macbook pro works perfectly, I do not even need to press F7.

Go to System Prefs>Displays and click on Detect Displays with the projector hooked up. If the project is turned on and configured correctly, the Mac should recognise it and automatically clone the desktop. You can then click on the Arrangement tab to change how you want to projector to display by dragging the two windows around etc.

If you turn the computer on with the still projector hooked up, chances are the Mac will use the projector as the main display.
