Does anyone know the color gamut on these MBA 11 and 13?
-
Not sure on the MBAs, but the better displays are typically used on the MBPs (iirc) and they can only go up to 70-72% NTSC.
-
60% sRGB for both. or about 40% ish NTSC/aRGB
the Retina MBP's are higher ( around the full sRGB gamut or 70% NTSC / aRGB )

Lol, I always get sRGB and NTSC percentages mixed up when looking these things up
Though I also am not a person that relies on having great color accuracy, so there's that lol. I just have a general idea of what the values are. -
fast cheat sheet.
sRGB is the older narrow color space. decent but not too vivid and really badly lacks proper range for true blue/purple hues.
rec 701. similar to sRGB but with a much more neutral whitepoint and expanded blue gamut range, it is the standard for alot of TV's and low bandwidth broadcasting
NTSC wide band gamut. becomming more common in high def TV, and even in some digital imaging devices. roughly 45% wider
aRGB similar to NTSC but again the whitepoint is a bit different as it was developed for printed media origionally.
Prophoto ... the largest currently uses color space, it is roughly 220% larger than sRGB and is now almost a necessity for dealing with some of the new video formats and digital video cameras used in cineotography.

Neat
.
Quick question though: How come Prophoto (and little bits of aRGB) stick outside the range of the horseshoe? Does that mean we can see colors outside the range of what our eyes can pick up or something? Kinda confused there o_o. -
yes, those areas are outside the typical ( average ) color range of many people. its like the retina marketing nomenclature as the 300ppi resolution is designed with a 20-20 vision basis ( more typical of older people ) as a great many people have better than 20-20 vision. everything has to have some kind of basepoint.
