    Macbook and external monitor resolution issue

    It's strange. I have a 20inch dell wfp and every time I turn on my lappy, its a guessing game. The resolution will either be the right one which is 1050x1650 or it will be the one close to it of 1600x900. The problem is, when its 1600x900 and I try to configure it back to 1050x1650, the option isnt available in the drop down menu.
