If I buy a macbook and hook up to a 19' external monitor, what is the highest resolution I can go? And will I get black bars at the top and bottom if I use an external monitor?
-
I'm not sure what the max res you can go up to, but usin ga 19" won't be a problem.
It can push 1600x1200 i know that, and on a 19" anything higher is absurd.
If it's a 19" lcd, it probably is only 1280x1024, which is easy for it to handle.
and no, it won't have bars on the screen. -
a 19 foot monitor?! where?! I want one!
-
if you can find a 19' monitor, I will clap for you.

The macbook's highest resolution for an external monitor is 1900x1200. People run 30" ACD's from them with no problem. It will handle a 19" easily.

The MB cannot run the 30" cinema display. The 30" uses a resolution of 2560x1600. So if they try to run it, it's going to screw up the display (not physically, but it will be skewed).

I remembered seeing somewhere that the Macbook could run a 30" Cinema, but I didn't find it at the Macbook spec page. But at the Cinema 30" page I found this, right at the bottom:
On the other hand, in the text body itself it says:
So... I am confused. Let's call Steve and sort this out.
lol

The 30" requires Dual-Link DVI which I do not believe the MacBook has.

Yar, I think it CAN run it. But it will not be able to use the proper resolution. Which means everything would look bad. It's like taking a 19" monitor with a native res of 1280x1024 and using it at 800x600. It just won't look right.

Ah okay, I just talked to one of apples engineers that was doing a presentation at our univ. He said that it may run it, but he hasn't tried. However, it may overdrive the gma950 and cause it to burn out or cause other damage.
Again, it may work, but it's not supported in anyway. He (and apple) recommend a max size of 23" for an external monitor. -
LMAO where would you put it?
Macbook hook up to 19' monitor?
