I would like to start off by saying this is my first mac EVER. I have no idea how to use osx. With that said...

I am having trouble connecting to my linksys wireless router with the macbook. I turned on AirPort, clicked on the router I wanted to connect to, and typed in the wep key and I get an error that says "There was an error joining the AirPort network"

Any help on this issue or tips on osx is appreciated.

For any connection a profile is set up. The SSID must match. The password can be entered in HEX or Paraphrase in 128 or 64 bit. These need to match. Check to see if you have Mac address limitations set up on your router. Do other wireless devices connect?

So many factors from software, drivers, modem issues, router connections, etc complicate things...Linksys was the worst router set up for me. Call them up. They have 24Hr tech support.

Can you connect to any open wireless network?

I forgot to mention that my other computer is able to connect fine. I am connected now with an ethernet cable coming from the router. I unfortunately don't have any open access points in my area...maybe at school.

I would just call Linksys, they will be more able to help you, faster, than we can.

make sure its an open access network, and note a shared key network. That was my problem.

I'll call linksys. But how much different is connecting a mac to an access point than it is connecting a windows machine? Shouldn't it be - enable your computer and access point -> hit connect -> punch in wep key (if applicable) -> and start surfing? This is what I have done to every notebook that I have used.

Solved my problem, it was supposed to be on wep 128 bit hex.

On a side note, windows runs great.
