I purchased a new macbook last summer and already the HDD is full. It is not possible to see what is on the hardrive. The trash is small but there are hidden items that I cannot see???
When I run du I get the reading pppeee volume needs to be repaired.
The du filesystem verify or repair first aid failed.
Why is this and how can this be overcome?
On the verify i get the reading incorrect block count 120 instead of 136.
This has been happening for sometime now and I need to get this sorted out as I am a teacher and I need my computer.
CAN YOU ADVISE ME WHAT I MUST DO??
THANK YOU

get the OSX reinstall CD that it came with, and put it in, then hold the "C" key to boot of cd. Once the computer boots off the cd, it'll boot to the leopard installer. Hit tools on the top toolbar->disk utility, then set it for 1 partition (GUID), and format mac os extended journaled. After that close disk utility and click install OSX. This will delete everything, and you'll have a clean/fresh install that should be trouble free.

well reformatting and losing all your data is one way for sure.. be sure to back up first.
You could also boot up off the install disk, go in disk utility, and just run a repair on the drive.... Verify doesn't repair anything, you need to boot up on the OS Install disc to actually do a repair.
Once its repaired, then look at your files and clean up things you do not need on there. -
If doh123's suggestion doesn't work, you could always replace the hard drive, do a re-install as GP-SE stated, then put the old drive in an extrernal USB and migrate everything over. If the hard drive is acting this weird, it would probably be safer to replace it, then to fix and hope it doesn't happen again.
