Hello, I bought a new macbook pro from the apple store (about a couple months ago) (the new SR model)...and recently i ran into a minor accident with it. To make a long story short...the laptop was on the floor, the lid open, and a young child ended up kinda falling on it. There has been no visible damage to the computer that I can see, except for the fact that now I notice than the monitor hinge seems to be slightly different. The monitor hinge seems to now allow the monitor to tilt to a larger angle now. Whereas before, it seemed like i could max. tilt the monitor to maybe 120 degrees. It seems to be able to do about 160 degrees now. In addition, before I used to be able to close the monitor lid to about 15-20 degrees and it would hold steady and tight at that position. Now, when i move it to about 30 degrees the hinge seems to just collapse and ends up closing the monitor lid.

I have applecare warranty, and I am aware any kind of fix for this probably wouldn't be covered, right? I guess my question to you guys is what do you think I should do? Is there a way to fix the hinge so its stronger and more like it was before? Can i take it to apple still? I don't mind paying for a fix either. So any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Yea that AppleCare doesn't cover accidental, im afraid you fix it on your own or pay out your butt for Apple to fix it. Take it to the AppleStore and ask them how to tighten the hinge.

Just take the computer into apple, generally if there is no visible damage then there is a good chance they may cover it.

if you have homeowners insurance there is a chance it may cover this.

Also, if the screen isn't damaged, the actual spare parts for the hinge isn't that expensive (still with work it MAY be a couple hundred, but it doesn't hurt to ask them for an estimate)

or if you charged it to a credit card like Amex, they will cover it

Thanks everyone for your responses thus far! I was wondering if anyone with the newer macbook pros could tell me how far their monitor will go back? Maybe i'm just over worrying and the laptop is fine...but it appears to bend back farther than before... like i said - maybe 145-150 degrees instead of what seemed to be 120 degrees before.

i would love if my screen would go back a bit further.

is it really that big of a problem anyway though? anyway 120 sounds about right.
