sry guys, but it's bothering me. i really want one. (i guess ill have to wait it out until montevina.) but how long can a company legally call something "new"?
isn't there some law or guidelines set by the BBB or FTC on how long something can be "new" if the macbook came out in 06, it should be considered old. even with the new features they added, it was in febuary, no longer new. that make sense or am i just being picky/bored?

That's they're current one, so I guess it's still new. Once they're new one (with montevina) comes out, they'll consider this one old. They can call it whatever they want.
-
it also appears that alot of companies plan on releasing their montevina notebooks within a day or two of montevina's release. any idea on how that works? are they just taking orders, or does intel give them chips beforehand? and i really hope apple will have a montevina notebook out before august. it appeared that last year it took them a month to get the santa rosa platform. -
I don't own a mac and never have, probably never will, so I wouldn't be the expert. But if I had to take a guess, they'll probably throw in Montevina after about a month.
Other members please give us your input as well. -
when are the other companies planning releases? (ive only seen the lenovo plans.) this is going to be a good fall, but they are really cutting it close. back to school starts right as they roll this stuff out.
(it's a good thing that apple has the free ipod deal until sept 15th!) -
The new HPs are scheduled for release in July. They've beefed up the graphics cards (I'm VERY IMPRESSED, to say the least, the DV5 (sucessor to the dv6000 series) will feature a 9600M GT, better than the 8600M GT, and almost comparable to the 8700M GT).

Customers will usually receive their laptops (based on the latest platform) about 3-6 weeks after it is released depending on parts availability and demand.
-
montevina laptops will start release on 14th of july.
Some companies may allow preorders before this time if permission is given by intel.
Many resellers and manufacturers have the parts in stock already.
The only laptops that i know of so far that will be ready for shipping on the 14th are clevo's new M860tu and their revised M570tu -

These board updates are only useful to those who care about every millimeter of gain in there specs, and those who will use that extra millimeter (90% wont) Otherwise its an easy reason to jack their prices up again. Go ahead and order a loaded one now. Wait until they come out with a "new generation" of MacBook to upgrade. Not just a refresh. (Which the current refreshment is a bigger one that what the montevina is going to be)
A $2k+ laptop today is not going to be "Old" for a while to come. Especially with the current specs in the MacBook Pro today. -
that's pretty true. but damn...
to be honest though, i'm more interested in the GPU upgrade. as a gamer, i know and understand how bad the GPU in a laptop can be. so i think i might try and wait, since the free ipod deal goes well into september. the other thing too, if i'm spending $2k on a laptop, i might as well wait for the best parts. (hoping they release it in august.) -
New to some, old to others, bro.
Apple was not the first to get santa rosa out. Many of the Clevo rebranders beat them to the punch. -
I don't think that Apple is interested in building a laptop for the gaming market, at least not so far. I hope that this will change and Steve Job & co. will wise up to grab a piece of the pie.

did they announce anything, or were there many rumors before they upgraded to santa rosa last year, or was it actually a silent upgrade that no1 knew about.

Plus the 9 series from Nvidia is the same as the 8 series, and its got horrible scores so far. They have no competition from ATI at the moment so they dropped the ball on the 9 series, Nvidia is waiting for there totally next generation of cards to really deliver. Which will be sometime early 09` (Announced end of this year) -
