Since the macbook+ipod deal is valid until September 15th, do you guys think that it's worth to get the current model or wait. Apple will probably release the newer laptops after September 15th right?
-
Yeah, pretty much.
You basically have 2 options:
1) Get it now, take advantage of the iPod, and then if something WAY nicer comes along you'll be pissed off
2) Wait, forget the free iPod and get the nicer Macbook
-
If you will need a notebook for school, its a tough call, you may have to rough it out a month without a notebook depending on how Apple plans to release the products in the waiting. There's expected new iPods and new Mac notebooks, and Apple won't announce them all at once.
-
I see it as get the deal or don't get the deal. Next year this time there will be all new stuff once again.
-
This happens every year, they clear the old stock of iPods with the promotion to make way for new ones in September/October.
Most people I know sell the iPod
. Well, I guess back then it was Nanos, and this year they're Touches, so its higher up now.
-
The best purchasing advice I've seen on these forums is 'Buy it when you need it'.
Going by that, if you absolutely must have the notebook now, then get it. Otherwise there's no (physical) harm in waiting to see what might roll-out in the next month or so. Psychologial harm is a different story.
-
You also get 30 days to exchange for the new, but you have to pay the restocking fee.
-
There is a rumor going around that Apple will have an announcement for new IPods on September 9th. If nothing transpires at that point, you will still have time to take advantage of the MacBook and IPod combo before the September 15th deadline.
-
Depends how nice the new Macbooks are and if they're worth waiting for. I doubt they'd release the new Macbook lines while this deal is going on. But that's just me.
-
Apple can announce a new model, but not ship it out until a couple weeks or month later. That's what Apple did with the MBA I believe. Apple can say that the promotion apply's to the previous models but not the newest ones.
Speaking of new IPods, Engadge posted screens of cases for the new IPods, which were leaked from the case manufacturers: http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/26/new-ipod-nano-and-touch-revealed-by-case-manufacturers/
Let the speculations resume!

Exactly the announcement SHOULD be comming in Sept. but the product may not come till Oct/Nov
I seriously doubt that there will be anything significantly different with the laptops and prob not too much with the iPods either.
The laptops are being released at the wrong time for anything major. The big purchasing time is summer when everyone is going to and getting out of school. So if apple is doing any major overhauls they are too late to get 99% of the school market as students are already all in session.
Thus students and schools are not generally purchasing anything in major quantities.
So if you need a laptop now is probably as good a time as ever, but if you don't need one now don't get one yet.
Technology is always changing and there is always something newer/cheaper/better coming along just a short time away. -
I was thinking the same thing. It seemed weird to announce laptop/desktop upgrades after the back to school rush. It would seem to me that one would want to offer the refreshed/redesigned computers for back to school and the refreshed/redesigned iPods for the holidays. Based upon the rumors, it appears Apple is doing it the other way around. I mean how many folks get a $2000 computer at the holidays?
-
Its not weird at all...I mean if they announced it now/few weeks/months ago no one would want the old models.
-
Apple is strange like that
. Well, remember, the majority of the population do not follow Apple rumours, so they don't know that there's expected Apple updates (I know people buying iPods a week before the announced "iPod keynote"). I mean, they don't like following numbers ("so you're telling me 2.0 GHz this is faster than 2.0 GHz that?"), they only care about the price and look and overall power.
So for that, Apple, along with the iPod promotion, is fine in clearing the old stock before introducing new Macs. And I mean, the majority of the population goes "mine looks fine, mine is powerful, and I got a free iPod, so what the heck, I'm happy". -
I suggest you wait, if you don't like the redesigned ipods and macbooks, you will be able to get excellent deals on previous models from sites like amazon.
-
I would say way, as it's only around the corner, and I don't think you will have to wait that long.
-
@ Sam
I agree that using the back-to-school deal is a great way to clear out old stock. Its especially useful if you're tight-lipped about when the redesign will come out. Most folks aren't going to wait for the new model unless they don't need the computer or know exactly when it will be released. They just get what works best for them at the time. -
Yeah, they don't really mind, and the free iPod helps them cool down when they do hear about a new model. They'll think, at least I got a free iPod, and I've been using a super fast computer all this time you've been waiting, so yeah.
-
I have the same problem. My aunt back home wants an iPod touch and I really want to buy a macbook. I don't really need the notebook right now because I still have my vaio notebook. I think I'll just wait till Sept 9. Isn't that the date that apple is said to announce some new updates? then if there is no new and improved macbook, I can just buy it before Sept 15.
Macbook+Ipod now, or wait for new ones?
