Am I correct in that macbooks (2.0ghz 13.3") can only go up to 2gb ram? Or is that merely all that is available preconfigured from the Apple store? I went to the store and played with this notebook and it is downright awesome in how great the keyboard is, how solid it is made, and how thin it is. Cant find anything that compares in the $1,000 range.

Core 2 Duo MacBooks can go up to 3 GB of RAM, but it won't be matched memory then.

Is matched memory like having two 1 gig sticks?
Is it bad to have say.. a 512 stick and a 1 gig stick? -
To make it simple, yes, matched memory is when both RAM sticks are the same size and speed.
I'll let my previous link answer the second question:

So, you can have a 2gb and a 1gb together, but not two 2gb sticks. Weirdness. Coming over from the desktop scene, I couldnt imagine running unmatched pairs on a motherboard capable of utilizing dual channel memory. So.. basically, that means 2gb limit is true for all practical purposes. Would the POTENTIAL upcoming santa rosa platform upgrade mean ability to go up to 4gb?
-
Yup, the Santa Rosa line can support 4 GB of memory. The MacBook Pro's recently release in June support up to 4 GB, using 2 x 2GB sticks.

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
actually, there have been people that put 4gb in the macbook.
Macbooks can only go up to 2gb ram?
