Don't know what to say but... Ouch...

So will Apple be issuing new snow leopard dvd`s ?
-
Why? They would just send out a update.
-
It sounds like there is a reasonable workaround here. Disable the Guest account, re-enable the Guest account.
Probably solved.
Stupid that it is even a problem, but at least it is an easy fix. But pushing an update down might be a good idea depending. -
Thats just awesome
-
If you follow through the links, and look at the cnet one, it seems to say that this data loss has only occurred for Upgraders from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and it has not happened with a fresh install of SL.

Remember to backup all the time may help a bit until the problem is fixed. I cannot help but think that SL is still not too stable.

It sounds like this is an issue only for those who didn't do a clean install.
...
Like I said before, always do a clean install. Upgrades don't make sense for new operating systems. -
Clean installs are a pain. I'd rather Apple not have loaded tons of bugs for us, regardless of clean install or update.
I have to delete plist files every 2-3 days and logout/login just to open .iso, .dmg, .pdf, .zip, .sit, etc files. It's annoying. I've had random .part files become non-existent ghost files that linger on my desktop, can't be dragged, can't be deleted...
I've been the first to defend Apple for a long time, but Snow Leopard actually pisses me off. So if a clean install is required to fix my Snow Leopard problems... I'm clean installing Leopard, and waiting til they fix everything. -
Of course, but such an issue at the root of the OS is a bit of a problem in future upgrades off currently held DVD's. I would like to see updated DVD's sent out, or at least the ability to ask for them with reasonable postage. I'm sure most of you're aware that OS X collects as many giant patches as Windows over time, so a retail disc that's e.g. ~a year old would need a long time sitting there patching - and some people might not bother to start with. I guess we'll see what their damage control process will be - mind you, with the user community rushing to do damage control all by themselves as usual, I'm not sure it's top priority on their list.

Not everybody has access to the internet to do the updates
-
If some one does not have access to the internet, then they probably would not have a Mac.
-
I feel like Snow Leopard has brought more harm than good.
-
nahh.. Snow Leopard is awesome, I'm loving it
-
It Is Not A Bug It Is A Feature.
Lol -
uh hu, one more damn feature and I got 5 machines going up for sale
-
Kind of a disturbing bug in general. What makes it even more disturbing is that Snow Leopard was considered a "minor" release.
Good thing the Guest account is rarely used, if ever.... -
They just wanted users to be able to experience the greatness of Time Machine....
what do you mean "what is Time Machine?" ???? -
Of course, Engadget made the same joke, but mentioned the Time Machines that randomly die.

How many people do you know that don't have a internet connection? If any, how many of those people have a Mac? The only reasons I can think of some one not having their own internet connection is that they can't afford it. If they can't afford a internet connection they most likely won't be able to afford a Mac.
-
How many people live far enough away that they can't get a decent internet connection? They may have internet access that's okay for light web surfing and email, but not for the hundreds of megabytes of security fixes and updates.
-
I have no idea where this internet connection conversation is going. Originally, it was the updates was brought up as a solution to prevent future occurrences of the bug. Then the counter point, while a weak one, was the issue of those without the ability to download the update. Then it goes back and forth about how many people actually have an internet connection.
WTH!!??
If they don't have a friggin internet connection to download the update, they will probably be unaware of the bug in the first place.
A fair counter point to the updates preventing future occurrence is to educate users about the bug NOW, since there ARE no updates currently to prevent this bug. And to educate users about backups. An update doesn't restore a user's data...... -
Conversations can go off on tangents, was it really worth getting upset about it?
-
Oh yeah, I just wasted 30 seconds of my life reading three extra posts of God knows what.
I'm curious, how many people have actually used the Guest account...... -
Im aware of quite a few, especially on shared units used for checking corp e-mail
