hi, i'm a kind of new, and i just want to know if i can disconnect my batery to keep my mbp just connected to the AC.. is this possible? am i going to burn something up? hahahaha
pd: i don't handle english very well so sorry by the mistakes .. i'm from southamerica -.-
-
you sure can.
-
thank you!

Wouldn't really suggest doing that. If your magsafe gets disconnected, your computer shuts off. Immediatly. And thats a very bad thing to have happen.
I'd recommend keeping the battery connected. It won't hurt anything. -
isn't that going to overcycle it? i'm using my macbook pro as a desktop right now..
-
I don't know if it will "overcycle", I think it just stops charging but there are some who thinks it will shorten the longevity of your battery keeping it in there and plugged in at the same time. You can operate your mBp without the battery while plugged in but like hollownail said if your magsafe gets disconnected you will lose whatever work you were doing. Similarly if you have a power outage.

anyone else?

Keeping it pluged in with the battery at full charge shouldn't have much of an effect on the battery. What is more damaging is only partially discharging the battery and recharging.
It should be plugged in only when the battery is at full charge or about empty. -
If you're looking for some concrete knowledge about battery cycling, check out http://www.batteryuniversity.com/
It seems very well done and trustworthy, and offers some excellent advice about how to take care of rechargable batteries. -
Just to take something from that "battery university" website above, this table has some useful information.

When I mean last, I don't mean that they stopped working, but that they hold noticeably less charge. -
ok.. so what do you recommend me to do?

The real problem comes not from overcharging your battery, but realizing that you are keeping it next to something hot (CPU & GPU) when using it as a desktop replacement. This can affect battery life if done excessively for hours on end over an extended period of time.
Best piece of advice is if you know you are going to keep to laptop on your desk for a while, take out the battery. And also, make sure that you put the AC adapter in a safe place. MagSafe will work against you in this case, since your AC adapter is going to release from the jack much easier than normal laptops.
