I just traded in my Macbook for one of the newer ones but today I stopped by Microcenter and my jaw dropped. You never see Mac stuff on sale. They snarfed up a bunch of pre Penryn notebooks and are selling them off at a savings.

They have the old Blackbook for $1100. That's $400 off and the price of the low-end Whitebook. I'm thinking of getting a Macbook for the wife and when I saw this I almost bought one on the spot. They have the old $1300 Macbook for $999 and the low end unit for $999. Yeah, I know. No thinking caps were used in setting that low-end price. If it was $799 I might have grabbed it right there as it is the price of a high end Mini for goodness sake. Then even the minis have $50 off. They also have the older 15 inch MBP for $1500.

I've deciced to wait. When the new Mac desktops come out, hopefully MC will be clearing out a bunch of minis and imacs and I can snarf one of them up. If you're waiting for a better price, now might be the time to take a look at Microcenter. Of course, they aren't the only ones with low prices on older macs but it's brick and mortar and you can return stuff in person if you have a problem.
