The way they go about with their aggressive advertisements recently give me the impression that they're gonna "do an Apple" soon & only sell the Windows OS exclusively on Microsoft hardware or what we may call "Microsoft laptops" in the near future.
-

haha, that'd be pretty wild.
i think my favorite part of this new installment is when they say "it has to be really fast cuz sometimes we need to look something up and rush off to baseball!"
yeahhhhhhh a computer made 5 years ago will run a web browser plenty fast enough for that. -
Oh wow. Haha, Microsoft continues to rub salt in the wounds. Although, Sony with BluRay for under $1500? Eh, I dunno about that...
-
I'm just shocked a parent has come to agree that one of the kid's main priority is gaming!
I'd say just give him the 15" macbook pro that he supposedly couldnt game on! Learning tool is a million times better! -

Here goes another thread about how bad MS advertising is. Boring.
Sony sells laptops with Blu-Ray for way under $1500. -

The question becomes.... Is that Vaio good enough for you? -
Check this article out.

Yea this is the same thing as the last red hair girl commercial. Just that they threw a little kid in there with an adult actress to make it look more "authentic."
-
By the way, why do you guys even bother about these sort of advertisements?
IMO, no matter what company is doing any sort of advertisements, most of the time they'll try their best to say that their products are better than their competitors' offerings. No?
You don't expect Microsoft to say that their Windows OS s**ks or Apple to say that their Mac OS s**ks, do you?
As with laptops, OSs, or any other thing, I'll strongly urge people to buy what they like, want, need, &/or can afford rather than bother with any of these advertisements whether it is from Apple, Microsoft, &/or some other companies. It is your opinion that counts, not someone else's. -

*sigh * cant we all just get along?

I find such commercials funny though, although the guys who are contracted to do such ads are not laughing (at least they have jobs). It also goes to show how Microsoft views the threat Apple are posing & are showing signs of desperation. -
-
-
A point that these ads do what they intend:
Every time one is made, a post dedicated to it goes up here.
Good work Microsoft. Keep them going. -
Another one of my opinion is that at least Apple didn't retaliate with one of their own "silly advertisements." This IMO shows that Apple has got "class!"
-
This one's a bit less plausible for me. Does a kid his age (he looks to be around 10) really need a super humongous gaming machine, a laptop at that? A smaller laptop (netbook?) would have been a better choice IMO.
I rate this laptop hunter's ad a thumbs down. -

LMAO... too bad I don't get TV so I could see all the funny computer commercial battles between M$ and OSuX.

Apple, Linux, MS are all great products. Advertising will differ from each product. Each side will bash the others advertising campaign. At the end of the day the real question should be, did it reach the masses. -
These adds make me angry because it just isn't realistic anymore. all computers can run all current OS's, unless there is something i don't know about.
The fact that they are still perpetuating this mac vs pc trend is a shame. Even my supposedly tech savvy RA is buying into this nonsense.
Bit off topic, but I even had a dream about buying a macbook pro last night, and I have refused to give Steve Jobs any of my money, EVER. -

Tons of Spyware
Malware
One or more viruses.
A cluttered and nearly clogged Registry
Wonky drivers or lack of updated ones.
Anti-Virus programs that slow the machine down.
Tons of trial software.
These customers with all of the above relate to Apple's ads rather than get offended by them. See, it's all about attacking the problem.
Microsoft's ads which mainly focus on what you can get for less focus on nonsense against Apple such as "Macs are pretty", "You have to be cool to own a Mac", "Macs cost a lot". None of these are REAL issues so not everyone but the cheapskate customer will relate to them. -
-
Anyways... I think this commercial is the best of the three in this series so far. Besides the screen size, they have something else you can't get on a Mac laptop (mid-range gaming capabilities) for under $1500. And as a nice bonus, they're getting Blu-Ray, which isn't available right now on a Mac at any price.
But maybe it also works for me, because... the Sony FW is a laptop that I wouldn't mind having myself. -
I find it ironic that in the end, they chose a PC equivalent in quality to an Apple notebook a Sony Vaio. -
-
Ok maybe Spyware and viruses are not on all of them, only some.
But clogged registry and AV software I am convinced is the main reason people want to upgrade their machines to something "faster". They don't know a re-install of Windows would do. -
I thought sony only had low end to medium range graphics cards in their laptops. So how can it be a gaming laptop?
-
-
Again, I felt that this ad wasn't bad. When they start deciphering stuff they might find issues again (like the HDX and portability, battery life, etc.), but to the average consumer its catching and (probably best of all) consistent to all the previous ads.
-
Actually, I think we are getting some channels right now, but.... meh. -
IMO,the Idea is nice, but 5$ scenario and 10$ actors, that fake excitement for serious ad=FAIL!and they are repeating themselves already...And they still don't explain why Win is better then Mac OS...

This time, they picked out a legit PC/laptop.
-
ati3650, 1900x1080, bluray
i am not sure what more i can ask for in a 1500 package, if they had that when i was in the market for a notebook; which they only had 3470, i wouldn't have bought this macbook pro at all....
i love the resolution as i don't game much and i get benefit from that and being able to watch HD movies
i don't regard getting apple, but if i can choose again, sony gets my vote.
ps. please let this kind of MS is raging war against apple type of thread, there had been dozens more flame war from apple and they don't even last 1/3 of the length of something like this...
anyways, have fun -
-
And D,you can get mbp for 1500 from ebay.
EDIT:how can I still respect M$ after this?paying someone to make a comparison as ridiculous as this=FAIL^2!!!Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
Microsoft aren't even trying to make sense with their ads anymore.
"Mac's, they're kind of popular at his age (the kids)".
Yeah, mac's are a kids computer. Idiot.
Then there's the past ads when some guy wanted something that had to be very portable and have lots of power, and then walked out with a HP that would get 2 hours of battery life tops.
I prefer the mac ads. -
so basically,M$ says that mac are incredibly sexy, cute, popular and for cool people...

My mom used to argue with my dad that "a learning tool" was more important than "gaming".
My dad responded that with the right guidance ANYTHING is a learning tool.
Given what I do for a living, and the fact gaming was a prime motivator to learn what I needed to learn, it seems as if my dad was right.
For a younger person, I have to say that macbooks (and especially the unibody ones) are just plain a really bad idea.
Given the fragility of the unibody macs, a $900 ASUS that will take a beating and still work AND game circles around the mac AND be a learning tool sure beats a $2700 mac.
(especially a $2700 brick)
If you are going to get a laptop for a younger person, I'd suggest one that doesn't brick on the slightest knock. -
If you read studies about gaming, that more than half most kids or people get sucked into gaming due to social issues.
I'm not saying all but in general because there are people that are gamers who live normal healthy lives.
I'm saying that there is nothing wrong with playing games as a kid, I've done so with NES and SNES, Sega, etc and I'm just fine BUT I wouldnt want my 10 year old kid to have his own personal pc to play games without my knowledge. At least with a console I can limit him per day.
Thats what I love about Macs, there arnt many shoot em up kill type games that you can install under OSX. There are a lot of learning type games on the Mac for children (I've always seen those dora or kid learning sesame street type fun games I've seen at the Apple store, where the little kids play on the imacs).
Also I think kids can learn a whole lot more with safari alone as a learning tool. I dont know about windows but I've never seen a feature like this one thats on safari as to any other browser. When you are reading an article and you come to a word that you do not understand you can actually place your mouse/cursor over that word and press, control + command + d and it will define that word right then and there for you. Same with a built in dictionary/thesaurus in osx. -

lol, i like this ad. its so ridiculous, it brings me goosebumps
!
for us that is tech-savvy, we can see right through the lies, but i'm afraid, most people will get sucked in by this.
"you find it you keep it"
i think i throw up a little in my mouth *gulp*
but on M$ defence, i suppose apple started all this. -
i feel fooled by this ad. The boy wants a gaming pc and buys one with a mid range graphics card. what a shame.

I got into the IT through gaming also. My first game was this really old flight SIM called Red Baron. Played it on an old XT.
Microsoft strikes again!
