With the increased thermals of the mobile i7 parts for quad core (55w, yikes) and 2ghz speed, Apple might as well offer a Q9000 revision on their 17" model at least. or go with a lower end (sub 2ghz) i7, but the Q9000 would be a nice quad sweet spot with decent thermals.

Does anybody know if the 17" has better fans than the 15"? I read on a forum that it had some higher quality fans called maglev or something.

By the way does anybody know if the base MBP 17"(2,8 and 500gig 5400 drive) has the 1.5gig sata controller problem that I've been reading about? Because I was thinking about buying an SSD for it if I buy the 17", still pondering that decision.

The MBP 17 never had the 1.5 SATA issue. It uses L2 Cache of 6 instead of the 3 if thats what you were looking for.

    Ah thanks for the answer.

Does anybody know for sure if the new Intel X-25M ssds fit in the current line of unibodies? There have been some conflicting reports about it.

Yes, they fit fine. They're both the same height. However there's an issue with the current firmware. There should be an updated version released within the next 2 weeks. This seems to be the reason why merchants have stopped shipping.
