I'm trying to hook my aluminum macbook up with my TV. I've gotten all the wires but it isn't working, is there something I have to do on my Macbook? Something to press?
-
Have you set the TV to receive signal from its S-Video port?
-
I didn't know that there was a mini display port to S video adaptor available yet... if so where did u get it as I'm interested in one.

you need a full converter box to get s-video from the mini-DP... just hooking up the VGA and plugging in like a VGA->Svideo converter will not work...
something similar to this...
http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/untimateEZ.html
but there are many many brands out there making devices like this. -
Right now I have the Minidisplay Port > VGA
Then VGA > S Video
Then S Video > TV
So if I get that box I'll be able to do it for sure? -
How much does a good one cost?
-
My professor has one, and I'll ask her about it tomorrow. I'll make sure to find out where she got her's at, and I'll give you a link when I find out.
-
That'd be awesome thanks!

Oh maybe I'm doing something wrong, the VGA>S Video adapter has two outputs the S Video one and the yellow RCA plug. I'm just connecting it to my TV via the yellow RCA plug. Is that wrong? -
So, if you're using the composite cable, you are connecting to the TV not using S-Video. Depending on your TV, there should be options in the settings menu of the TV for displaying from a different input. -
The only one I see is TV/Video. There is one video channel but it is just blank.
So what exactly does composite out mean? Is that likely to work? -
Composite is just another output. The quality is not as good as S-Video, but the difference is not that great. On analogue TVs (old TVs), the video channel (AV channel, usually mapped to 0) should display input from composite. Assuming the port itself does work (test by pluggin in a DVD player or something), it's a problem with your setup that's causing the S-video/composite not to output anything.
-
It's weird, when I use my X Box I plug it into those inputs and put it on TV/Video, but when I try that with my X Box, nothing.
Have you heard of other people using that setup?
(mini display port to VGA, VGA to S-Video/Composite, Composite to TV via a yellow cable)
Definitely nothing I have to do on my computer? Just plug and play? -
Can the unibody's output standard def composite/svideo? like doh123 said, im not sure if they do out of the box
-
-
if you get a video box like i posted earlier... you can get other output types to work. Just plugging in the way you tried with 2 adapters does not work on the Unibodies, nor is it supposed to.
A full external box that you can hook up to with VGA, will actually convert the signal out to other types... which does work. -
Alright cool. What are the specific specs that it has to have?
-
Anyone know?

I had the link saved in case I needed it, but I haven't had the need yet. I read on several other message boards people using those devices, someone using that specific one, and it working fine on their Unibodies...
not sure what more info you need... -
Would this one do it?
Do they all work for all computers? -
And is that a good price?
-
This is the one I'm thinking of getting, any idea if it will work?

I don't have an S-Video port on my TV, I was planning to just use a 'yellow' cable (not really sure what it's called), is there any other option?
Anyway to tell if it will work for sure? -
Yellow cable is called composite. It uses a RCA plug
-
Does that support it? It seems to have one of those wires in the picture.
-
Has anyone actually used that converter with the new aluminum Macbook?
It's the only one I can find that's sold in Canada on eBay.
