So lately I haven't been paying much attention to the rumors of the Macbook/MBP that's expected to be announced at Macworld Expo 2008. Can any of you guys catch me up on this? I think it was something like an ultraportable MB without an optical drive. If so...

    1. Would there still be a MB targeted for people who actually use an optical drive and MB that has a minimum of a 13 inch screen? Or are these going to be replaced by the "ultraportable"?

    2. If there is a new MB, when will Apple start selling them?

I do not see any reason for Apple to replace the MacBook with this. So I don't think you'll need to worry about the MacBook being discontinued or replaced by this. It'll most likely be just an ultraportable aimed at professionals.

And if this is true, probably right away, or shortly after. Apple rarely announces things months in advance.

The ultra portable will not compete with the MB. I could see it coming in around the $2000 mark.

It kinda sounds like a resurgence of the PowerBook Duo line. Anyone remember those? Hehe, those were the days...always wanted one of those things, but never could afford one.

    *waxes nostalgically*

I would personally love to see an HP2510p competitor from Apple, which is what I always imagined a 12" MBP would be something like.

So no big changes to the Macbook 13 inch line is what you're saying? Because I would love to have more than 2 USB ports on the Macbook...

Probably not until at least March of next year, considering Apple updated it last month, or was it early this month? I forget.

There were rumours from 9to5 Mac about a MacBook redesign though. However, it stated that it would happen late October/early November, and the MacBook was updated but no major redesign, so this rumour didn't come true. Or at least, not yet ;).
