I really would love one for xmas, but i need to know a couple of things.
-I know a refresh is possible. Are we all thinking early 2008? And I know the penryn chip will be put in, but I don't mind skipping that. I am thinkg design change?
-Is there anywhere I can get a price anywhere lower that 2000?
I may edit this w/ more questions.
-
Yeah, probably early 2008. As for design change, its hard to say. But I would say the early 2008 update, if it happens (and probably will), will just being a refresh, and not a redesign. But I don't know, just a guess.
As for the price, do you qualify for Student Discount? That will bring the price down to $1800 instead of $2000. Otherwise, check Apple's Refurb site, they have cheaper Macs there at very good quality (almost new quality).
MacMall sells Macs cheaper than Apple does, but there have been horror stories with MacMall (see sepandee's thread), so I would rather just pay the extra to Apple and not take the chance. -
yes....they usually release new products in the 2nd week of january.
if youre a student/faculty member, you can get the laptop for 200 bucks off. -
I believe Amazon currently sells them for $1810, after an in-house rebate.
-
how likely will there be a new design for mbp at macworld? because if it really is just a cpu update, i would be willing to skip it as well
-
-
Penryn is really just an supped up core 2 duo..I think the real redesign will be when they release Montevina or maybe Nehalem! Just my opinion though..
-
I would wait, they might increase battery times or lessen the heat coming off these laptops which always seems to be a problem.
-
I wouldn't wait. I would buy it for Xmas and enjoy great time with your MBP. I didn't wait, I have just purchased mine. Ask yourself - do you really need anything more? MBP is a cutting edge laptop and waiting another 50 days just because instead of 56 it MAY have 58 of something it won't improve your joy. We are all getting a little bit mad about these updates... just my 2 cents.
-
ok im gonna order one after i check out the glossy vs matte
i was using photoshop for the first time today trying to merge like 20 pics together, my laptop was so slow and my desktop doesn't have enough ram... mbp it is! -
Ericala, go get one! I picked matte. Working in the nice looking OS on the nice looking hardware really turns my creativity on. Sometimes I keep starting on some part of the MBP and can't believe how greatly it is designed.
-
I just get my 15 inch macbook pro yesterday afternoon. Well, if you keep on waiting, then you have to wait for a life time, because the new technology is always coming up, new CPUs, new video cards.
-
One question: If I bought the current mbp soon (2007) and then they came out w/ one within the year I bought, would they let me trade it in? I would only trade it if it had a redesign.
Thanks all for the comments, I'm big on the design of laptops, so that is just about the only thing I'd want to wait for. -
-
darn, so basically it's all set in stone, but I see its well worth it. Thanks Xander

my Uni. bookstore is having a sale, $1600 for the cheapest/lowest one......
From my experience, they always having an apple product sale when theres an update coming, so yeah there you go -
I'd love it if I could get a discount, but I am in junior high. I have a friend in college...would she be able to get the deal? Or anything like that?
-
However, I do agree, I would prefer if Student Discounts were extended to high school students too, as I am one myself. -
-nodds- can I ask this?:
How far does apple check into the colleges and such? Do they require a record of school? -
Depends where you are. In Canada, to access the Apple Education Store online you need to enter the Student ID for your university/college. However, the U.S. Apple Education Store doesn't need this. That said, once again I do not support "cheating" the system in any way
