So I was planning on getting a 24 inch for my MBP but Gizmodo says
    http://gizmodo.com/5063492/macbook-and-macbook-pro-dual-review
"Connecting to an old external screen, however, could be problematic. The DVI port has been replaced by a mini DisplayPort in both new laptops. This is meant to connect directly to the newly minted 24-inch Cinema Display. As for your old monitor, no biggie, if it's 24-inches or larger just use a mini-DisplayPort-to-dual-DVI adapter. The only problem is that this adapter isn't bundled with either laptop, and it'll run $100 on its own. Ouch. If your monitor is less than 24-inches, you can get away with either the regular Mini DisplayPort to VGA or the DVI adapter, which is just $29. We're hoping for an aftermarket solution to this issue ASAP."

I thought 24 inch was the limit, but this says if it's 24 inch or bigger. :|
    Anyone know anything about this?

Oh I don't want to have to buy the dual-DVI.

Don't worry yet I'm pretty sure the miniDisplayPort to DVI support up to 30" (not including 30"). I also asked the Apple representative when I order, and he went and checked with someone he knew to make sure that it'd work with my 24" monitor. Though I'll have to read up some more since Gizmodo's review is contradicting what I thought.

It should be larger than 24" that requires dual link. On Apple's website, they list the MDP to DVI adapter being able to drive their 23" Cinema display, which is a WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution, just like most 24" monitors.

For QUXGA (like the 30" monitors), you need either DisplayPort or dual-link DVI. This is why Apple didn't use HDMI; it doesn't support anything higher than WUXGA currently (not to mention the royalties).

Okay, that makes sense. Gizmondo probably mistaken Apple's description of the cable and thought that 23" is the max it can take.

Okay, I hope Gizmodo is wrong. Thanks.

They should be. Like Paul pointed out as long as the resolution is 1920x1200 (most monitor from 24"-28") the single cable should work. But for higher resolution of 2560×1600(most 30" monitor) you'd need that $99 (Ouch) cable. Now there might be 28" with 2560×1600 resolution and stuff, so relying on screen size alone wouldn't be very accurate.

Apple guys told me yesterday that both MB and MBP support up to and INCLUDING 30" displays, with the 99$ apple dual-dvi converter.

Yeah I don't want to have to buy the $100 adapter. I'm not planning on buying above 24 inch, since the price jumps so much.
