If someone has any new information on the planned launch date or/and detailed specifications of the next gen. macbook pro with the montevina platform they can post here. I would appreciate it a lot (waiting to put one on order :)

As far as I know, July 14th is the planned launch date for the montevina platforms with dedicated gpus, which could mean that mbps are going to be updated around that time. Or, maybe apple is going to wait for the montevina platforms with integrated gpus (planned to be launched around mid august) to put into macbooks and then update the whole notebook lineup at the same time. The latter scenario seems unlikely, in my opinion, as apple has a habit of updating the higher end mbp lineup first. However, the last penryn update was done on both mb and mbp lineups at the same time so who knows. Feel free to comment on this if maybe you know something that I dont (or correct me if I'm wrong).

Thank you everyone in advance for your inputs.

Thread title needs to be changed to "Montevina Macbook Pro Speculation" or even better, "Bunch of Damn Wild Guesses".

My guess is the MBP will get a montevina refresh by the end of August at the latest.

I'll have to say, anyone who truly has information probably wouldn't reveal it . Apple's really secret about this stuff...those that would know would have to be trusted enough not to post information about it.

I havn't paid much attention to the other laptops, but are there any others that are being released soon with montevina?

I'd think apple would release the new mbp after other companies, seemed to be like that in the past.(iirc)

What about when someone actually does post some relevant news about the update, then the feelings will be quite the opposite ;)

HP, Sony, and Lenovo are the three that i've heard. they are all releasing the second it comes out. they have the laptop models set, now all they need is intel for the chipset.
what i dont understand is why doesnt Apple release the same time as them. waiting 1 month means apple would have outdated technology for 3/4 of the back to school season sales. (july - late august.)

I voted they would do that by end of August. The MacBook didn't go Santa Rosa until 3rd quarter of 2007.

HP however is planning for Montevina by July-ish. So, if you really want to go with Montevina, go with HP. Not sure on other manufacturers schedules.

A question, or more of a concern. Do you think the current rebate going on now have anything to do with the release of Montevina? Has Apple done rebates before releasing a new upgrade to increase the sell of their current model before upgrading?

Given that Centrino 2 was delayed 2 weeks and Apple normally takes ~5 to release revisions, I'd say we're ~3 weeks away from the new MBPs.

Can anyone guess the specs though? Specifically the GPU. I was a Mobility HD3850 in the 17", at least BTO!

Centrino 2 has been delayed from June 3rd to July 14th, over 5 weeks. Assuming Intel can provide CPU's and chipsets from July 14th, and Apple has decided on a new available GPU, they could release new MBP's on July 15th, a tuesday, to keep up with other big brands like HP and Lenovo.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple announced the new MBPs on the 15th, a tuesday (their update day), but then again, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't.

Any chance that Apple would offer color options for the shell of the MBP? Aluminum is cool and all, but having different color options would be nice. I just hope that should Apple allow color options that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to go from white to black like they have with the MacBook.

Why not redesign this round? We're all clamouring for one, Apple has to listen to its best customers here on NBR... I mean, they just gotta! Then again, I won't be in the market for another MBP until 2010. So Apple, take your time to build something completely uber-awesome by then. I'll be waiting.

There are leaked photos that look very much like an aluminium MacBook, meaning Apple'd have to redesign the MBP to distinguish it.
