When I play certain movies that I have downloaded, it plays in two side by side and squished. What's the solution?

We need to know a lot more information. What video format are you trying to playback (h.264, standard mpeg-4, divx, xvid, mpeg-2, etc.), what container are the videos in (mpeg-4, mkv, mpeg, avi, etc.), what version of OS X are you running, what are the specs of your Mac, are you trying to play these back on your Mac's built-in display or on an external one, and what program (and version) are you using to try to play these videos with?

it sounds like you got an illegal rip of a movie online and whoever put it together messed it up and didnt bother fixing it. this isn't surprising, and there is no fix except to obtain movies from legitimate sources

Seeing as discussing illegal rips is not permitted under NBR forum rules, if you can't figure out how to work it, you should just get a working copy via honest means. Thread locked.
