    Hi Everyone,

I purchased a new Macbook last week and was able to use migration assistant to move all of my files from my old MacBook (with an ethernet cable). Well, for a number of reasons, I have decided to return my new MacBook and would like to move everything back (I already wiped the data and reinstalled OSX). I am running into trouble because the white book wants to use firewire and won't recognize the ethernet cable. How is the best way for me to move my files?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jill

I'm guessing that you already did this in order to transfer files to the Alu MB, but have you downloaded the latest version of the Migration Assistant?

Other than that, try external USB HDDs, or Time Machine.

Do you have all the latest updates on your white macbook? If you have the latest migration assistant, it should support more options than would be supported "out of the box". If I was faced with a situation like yours, I would try using a usb hard drive to do the transfer. Also, I would never wipe the source machine until after the destination machine was fully up and running with all my stuff.

BTW, I have a white macbook and while I can't exactly run out and buy the aluminum macbook right now, I'm thinking about it. What are some of the reasons you are taking yours back?

Pull out the HDD, put it in an USB HDD box then import into your old Macbook.

Thanks everyone, I managed to get everything moved over with Time Machine, don't know why I didn't think of that myself :)

r0k, you were curious as to why I wasn't going to keep it... I need to have a machine that I can run windows on, my white macbook is running out of space so while I can run bootcamp, it is not optimal. I thought the new macbook would be perfect, larger hard drive, sleek, shiny, faster. Honestly, while it is nice, I personally don't feel it is worth the premium cost. I really struggled with the trackpad, and it was near impossible for my kids to use. I thought it was well built, felt solid but really not worth it to me.
