This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Moving files on Macs

    I'm trying to move a bunch of files at once to my external drive and I want the original file to be gone when it finishes moving. It's kinda like the cut and paste function on windows. I can't do command-x for files so I'm stucked. Tips?

    This one's a little complicated...... but essentially, you'll notice normally that when you move a bunch of files from one drive to another, there will be a green + icon in the group, indicating its going to be copied.

    If you hold the Command key down before you drop the files onto their destination, that green + icon should disappear, and it will act as a move instead of a copy.

    There's also a little shareware add-on called FileCutter that adds some contextual menus that will let you do file cutting and pasting.
