Can Apple release an update that would enable multi-touch gestures on the current model notebooks? I mean, it can obviously detect multi-touch (scrolling up and down windows and right-clicking by double tapping). Do you guys think that this feature could be added to the current lineup?![]()

Dunno. Hard to say if it's solely software or hardware. I'd imagine that they would keep it to the MBA and the next version of MB/MBP to try to entice people into buying it. Now, maybe sometime down the road, if it is an easy software update, I could see them doing that. But probably not yet.

I honestly think it could be possible, but only Apple and however makes the touchpads knows for sure, I honestly would LOVE to see that happen, but I won't be expecting it at all.
I would love to see this being incorporated into higher end programs to help speed up the workflow. -
Hmmm.... that would be awesome. Are there any utilities out there that already do this on the MacBook/MBP's? I'll be conducting a search on this tonight.

I don't know why Apple would do that if they decided to. If they introduced the new multitouch thing on the next generation MBP I would understand, but offering it for free for current MBPs just doesn't make sense.

Apple could keep their current customers happy by rolling out a multi-touch trackpad... Who knows, other manufacturers will release notebooks that have multi-touch capabilities, and if Apple releases a beta version for current MB/MBP owners they would have lots of time to iron out the kinks in it and be ahead of the game.

I think it could be software...considering you can put two fingers down and scroll on a webpage or picture up and down, left and right, some of those gestures could be supported.
I guess some that might not could possibly be that the current trackpads can't recognize three fingers, therefore can't do some of the other gestures. -
A couple years ago Apple released a new notebook (I think it was a PB..or was it a MBP..anyways) that included the two finger tap for contextual menus. People were able to extract the new Mouse control panel and install it on older models. Eventually, the new feature was rolled into the release of 10.4. So it may be possible.

Hey... it appears to be software based. I noticed some of the gestures (such as zoom) is already supported and in use. So yeah, I bet it could be implemented in current models. If I knew anything about the API for OS X, I'd attempt to write something that could implement one of those features, but alas, I don't
Multi-Touch Gestures for current models?
