Before I punch something, this is really pissing me off. I go to System pref--->display and adjust the brightness bar when 1) on battery 2) plugged in, but after it doesnt save the setting!

You are seriously going to bump a post just after ten hours? Forums are not meant for instant communication. There are plenty of chat rooms and IRC channels dedicated to discussing Apple products. Go to those if you want instant responses.
The first thing I would do is fully reboot the MBP and then try adjusting the settings. Also make sure that you have the correct settings for the light sensor as it will automatically adjust display and keyboard backlight brigthness if you allow it to. -
Yeah I'd offer my suggestion but bumping a thread that soon wont get my help.
-
well i have the "auto adjust" option unchecked. should i have it checked?
-
thats not a setting to be saved... its just a bar to change it.
using the F1 and F2 keys change the brightness too, and will move that bar for you. -
I tried that but it still doesnt save my damn settings, what the hell is up with this garbage? I set my brightness with the F1/2 keys when 1) plugged 2) on battery. And when i do that it resets back to full brightness when plugged in uhhh. Why cant they make this simple like in windows. Its really pissing me off. Someting like this shouldnt be this difficult and time consuming.
-
there is no way to save brightnesses on different settings... like I said before. your trying to save something that isn't even supposed to save. There is an option to dim the display when on battery, but thats it. if you have that on, it will get brighter when you plug in power. I have no idea why you would want brightness levels saved, as I have to change mine all the time depending on the area I'm at and how the lighting is.
-
Im just always used to having set brightnesses on battery and when plugged in. Id hate to always have to adjust the brightness. Im guessing you have the auto dim feature checked on yours?
I played around with it some more and i guess its set as default where the brightness goes up 1 notch higher when plugged in. Dont know why. I would unplug on one setting then once i plug it, it jumps up one notch even if i try to adjust it. -
I don't have my brightness ever auto adjust in anyway shape or form... I control it how i want it. If I only used it in 1 or 2 places where the lighting was always the same, I could see having saved settings maybe, but I don't... I prefer using the keys and adjusting it anytime it needs adjusting.
-
Well sounds like maybe i have no choice but just get use to having to readjust each time with the F1/2 keys. Im sure i can live with it.
-
MBP doesn't save brightness settings because OS X is a superior operating system. You see, developers know that the setting they have chosen is the best setting for all people at all times and that whatever setting you decide is wrong. Therefore, the brightness will instantly resort back to the correct settings after you input your customized mistakes.
-
funny... mine stays where I put it at all times... I guess that means I'm perfect.
-
dont know what the heck everyone is talking about. my brightness stays where i put it on both battery and plugged in. i put it the way i like it and never touch it again. im using 2010 mac pro not 2011 maybe?
-
Well mine saves the brightness settings, it just doesnt let me have the brightness the same brightness on battery and when plugged in. It automatically has my brightness one notch lower when on battery. Im guessing thats normal.
-
no... go to Energy Saver and under Battery uncheck the option that says "slightly dim display when using this power source"
-
It won't save them on 2011 MB Pro 13" that I had for a while and the ambient light sensor was also not working. Maybe they fixed it in the last couple of weeks. No problems on my 2010 MB Pro.
-
Sweet thanks! Thats what i was looking for.
-
Hey my backlit keyboard is always on even with brightly lit room, is there a way to only have it turn on when dark? I go to the keyboard menu and i have the "light keyboard when dark room" or soemthing like that. If I uncheck it, it doesnt light at all.
I dont want the lights on 24/7, itll burn out in no time. -
LEDs? maybe if you run it 24/7 for 15 years.
-
If you're updated to the latest software, I guess Apple hasn't fixed this yet. The ambient light sensor is supposed to adjust things automatically.
-
You mean latest software for OSX? I am updated it says. I dont know why Apple doesnt fix this. Having the backlit keys run on all the time is not good. Is this issue only with 2011 MBPs?
-
Theyre LEDs in the mac keyboard?
-
AFAIK. No issues with my 2010.
-
When are they running all the time? mine turn on and off fine in my 2011 17"
yes, the keyboard and the screen backlight are all LED. -
So does that mean it would be safe to run the backlit keyboard LEDs all the time when the MBP is on? I realyl wish Apple would come up with an update for it. Its just a waste of battery power when you dont need it.
-
its safe... I run it almost all the time myself. Mine turns off fine, so whats the problem with turning them off?
My MBP wont save my brightness settings, help!
