So here is a picture of my NEW OLD black macbook, when i bought it from a friend for dirt cheap, he dishonored it, only 512mb of ram 80gb hdd and the top case was full of cracks, still on tiger, fortunately the battery was brand new and the screen wasnt scratched! so i updated ram to 2gb, hard drive to 250gb and i got snow leopard on it and replaced the top case from apple, which was FREEEEE :p

ive switched to mac for all my production on websites and graphics design and video :D i love the new interface. im not a windows hater though i just love both

i need help now on a hard case to protect the outside AND and cover INSIDE to protect the keyboard and the palm rest

ive heard bad things about SPECK hard cases, my model is a 2006 one so please any and all help is appreciated, would like to buy online from amazon or somewhere reputable :D thanks

If I were you, I'd get a Moshi PalmGuard or similar for the palmrest, and then get a MacStyles for the lid protection. $20 buys you a color or clear MacStyle that shows the Apple Logo through, and you can get cutout designs to make your notebook stand out.

Another thing I always used on my "BlacBook" (what I called it) was the MarWare protection pack palmrest - Its like a leather pad for the palmrest that keeps those cracks from coming back, and makes typing like 1000X more comfortable.

For both the MacStyle skin and the Moshi or MarWare pad (which both also include touchpad protection) you're looking to be out a total of US$40, which is what one of those crappy Speck cases cost, but doesn't cause scratches, or creak, or add dimension to an already kind of bulky machine.

    Good luck.

Lokster, how's SL running on your blackMB? I have the same vintage MB (limit is 2GB RAM) & was wondering if I should upgrade to SL. New s/w coming out that I want to try, mostly freeware, do not install on Tiger anymore. BTW, nice setup! TIA, Takosan

if you have chips on the keyboard area around the edges, make an appointment at apple and they will replace the whole top half with a new keyboard & trackpad for free, even if out of warranty.
    They had problems with these

SL is supposed to be faster than leopard with native support for 64bit applications.

    thanks :p

i know right but i need something to protect this gorgeous machine

SL runs flawlessly, BUT how i did it was a clean install from Leopard AFTER so many updates, probably 2gb updates worth, then i upgraded to snow leopard and UPDATED again, around 2gb also to catch up. now it shuts down in a few seconds and starts up around 30 seconds. No anti virus to load up haha

yup i have done that and it was painless, 30 minute fix, they ship o0ut the broken one BACK to apple

Yes it is faster. but i dont know about 64bit support because programs in mac dont specify if its 64bit lol im sure if i got windows 7 64bit on BUT i only need 2gb for mac, id try 4 but it costs too much
