Hi, I just wanted to share my experience with my MBP (new about 3 weeks ago), and since almost every post in this forum contains some sort of issue or complaint about the macs, I wanted to add something positive to the table for a change![]()
Up until I got my MBP roughly 3 weeks ago I had been a windows user all my life, i've built 5 PCs and used lots of laptops etc. so i'm absolutely no apple fanboy (though atm. i've got a hard time not bragging about my mac). The first time I actually seriously started considering switching, was when I heard that windows could be installed as well as mac os X. Even though I was sick and tired of constant virus infections, spyware, firewall software, anti-virus etc. etc. I wasn't sure I wanted to switch completely. What if I suddenly started using some sort of software not available for Mac OS? Thankfully i've found a better or equal substitute for absolutely everything I do on Mac OS so far, so that's been a really positive experience. I was really blown away in the start by how much really good freeware existed for Mac OS (quicksilver etc.)
Before I purchased my MBP (I did it online btw, since norway has no apple stores, just resalers) I, as many others read up on hundreds of posts on this forum, and on macrumors, though I had a really hard time deciding, since so many of the posts contained something negative or a complaint of some kind. So that's why I just wanted to share a positive experience with you guys for a change, thanks for all the advice I've gotten from this forum though![]()
So, during the 3 weeks i've had a mac now, i've only had one real problem: I had some small problems getting the machine to hibernate when I closed the lid, seems the alpha version of opera caused it though, it works great now when I reverted back to the release version. aside from that i've had a 100% positive experience with the mac, no yellowing on the screen or nothing (week 34 LG screen), except if I view it from an angle, then it starts yellowing pretty bad, but I never do that, so(is it normal that it gets yellow when viewed from an angle btw?)
i've also tried fusion/bootcamp and bioshock, which runs smooth as silk on the 128, maxed out at 1024x[something], though i've found that even though I want to play games on this monster, I just dont want to leave the cozyness of exposé etc.so I rarely reboot.. though it certainly works to play games on it, and I also dont seem to have any temp problems (it's at 48 degrees now, with the fans running at 3.5k rpm)
so anyways, the reason for this post was just to share a positive experience for a change, to all of those getting worried about the countless errors/complaints shared here, they're probably all true, but macs that are fine still existso if I were you, i'd buy

SaferSephiroth The calamity from within
+1 Thanks for that
My own experience has been very similar. -

Could you take a photo of your display with a white/grey background? I'm dying to see what a great Macbook Pro display actually looks like, as I've never seen one before (both my Macbook Pro's had problems with the display).
-
first of all, a picture could never ever replicate just how nice this screen is.. it's without a doubt the best screen i've ever seen (though I havent really spent my life checking which LCD is best..), and second, I dont have a camera
but, it's nice (i've got a matte btw) -
Actually, and apologies for a ind of hyjack...... but, I have noticed that when i look at pictures - here is an examlpe o m MBP 17" that they look god awfull, pixalised and rather horrible etc. Is there something i am doing wrong or do they look that way for you too. On my PC hey are fine.

Example 2. http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0917810&size=L&width=1000&height=680&sok=&photo_nr=
Do you see pixalisation in the sky? -
i can't see anything wrong with those pics on my screen anyways, but it's not a 17", it's a 15.4"

I have ataced a screenshot to sow you.

doesn't look anything like that on my screen, seems like you've somehow enabled 16bit colors or something, though I have no clue on how to change it to 32bit on a mac

I agree with a lot of what Fedorian says. My MBP is two weeks old. No hibernation problem, no warped lid, a little hot, but a Rain iLap fixed that. Windows is becoming a distant memory, at least until I go back to work
-
I have narrowed it down to being a problem with firefox. Safari display's it perfectly.
Just need to figure it out -
neat shaggy
anyways, I just wanted to share my positive experiences with the MBP, since so many get worried reading this forum, and think it's an unstable/bad machine, in my experience it's not.. and anyone who shares my experience are more than welcome to write here too, so we can get some positive input here aswell -
Thanks, Fedorian, for the encouraging review. I am planning to buy a MBP once Leopard comes pre-installed, and your thread has only reaffirmed what I already know will be an excellent purchase. +1

Great to hear, Fedorian. Really, forums are often misunderstood by members; seeing all these "Help!" threads make them think that a particular product is full of problems, while in reality, its because the satisfied customers, which are the majority, aren't posting "I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY MBP!"
.
Thanks for the first look and thoughts, Fedorian.

I realize just that Sam, so I just wanted to post one of those "I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH MY MBP" threads, to see just how many ppl actually have the same experience I do
-
Yeaps, very nice for taking the initiative, Fedorian

My experience with the MBP (a positive one, for a change)
