So the temperature in Los Angeles hits 92F today, about 32C. My macbook is having her first day in summer I guess. But oh no!!!She has a fever already. I am sitting by my desk with a cup of cold water while the macbook sitting on the desk with a Belkin cooler( with one fan, and some noises) under her. Itunes, Safari and a bubble shooting game in dashboard make my macbook's CPU's temperature goes up to 55F, sometimes even 60F, according to istat nano. Is this normal? Anything else I can do to lower the temperature of the notebook?
-
Your CPU is at 60F? Below ambient temperatures? I think that you mean 60C, which is about 140F. You're perfectly fine at 60C/140F. A modern Intel CPU, such as the one inside your unibody Macbook, is built to run at temperatures of up to 105C, or 223F.
So again, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. -
relax, as long as it's not like 80C+ your ok(and even then you not totally screwed...).
My oldish AMD Turion TL-60 Dual core run at a consistant 80C and it seemed fine other than the really hot air coming out of the side of the machine. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Those temperatures are fine. There's no need to prescribe more cowbell.

Soory , my mistake, I forgot that I changed the unit from F to C last week. So yes, around 55C-60C, 108F-117F. I will listen to you guys and not worry too much, but the laptop case gets pretty hot, and it makes me feel hot too
-
HITTIng 135F now. ZOMG.....
-
Yeah my MBP gets up to 80 degrees when I have multiple youtube videos running in HD. The case gets warm, but I like warm feelings.

if you download SMCFanControl, you can use it to manually control your fans and monitor the temperature.... and run the fans higher than they normally do to keep it cooler than normal. -
190F is a point where you need to start figuring out what is going on. At 200F, you should be very worried. At 205F, you should shut down.
Other parts may have higher/lower threshold. For instance, the 9400M graphics card should be able to withstand 250F.
As said above, if you're worried, use SMCFanControl to speed up your fans. -
The city's temperature goes down to 72F(22C)at night, and when I watched a video clip on youtube, the machine's CPU temperature just suddenly shot up to 175F >.> still no need to worry ,right?
-
umm...youre only watching a youtube video? Are you sure youre not running other programs?
-
60c is damn cool for a notebook.

50-60 degrees celcius is pretty normal for a macbook while surfing on the internet and listening to some music.
-
Use smcFanControl and set it to 2400. It's very quiet at that speed, but keeps the machine a whole lot cooler. Designed for heat or not, electronics always like it better cool....
I can say this with some authority, look where I am posting from...Apple certainly didn't design these to be used in a tropical country.

i have 4 profiles on my mac:
1) Default 2000rpm
2) Medium 3400rpm
3) Medium-High 4900rpm
4) High 6000rpm -

Try using one of the various fan control programs out there, they work wonders for me. Also take note of the fact that using the notebook on uneven surfaces (like a bed) will cause your heat to rise higher than normal. My temps usually peak at around 60C for the CPU, and 78C for the GPU when I'm gaming.

I noticed a huge difference in temperature on my Macbook Pro when running under better performance settings rather than better battery life
-
of course there will be difference...

Are you sure that 999 rpm isn't going to get your laptop overheated?

My macbook has a fever right now
