I just recieved my refurbished 17" Macbook pro yesterday and love it. It looks just like new to me and is built like a tank. I have more of an observation than a question, that i would like to say.
I have been reading posts on this board as well as others about heat related issues when playing GPU intensive games like COD and WOW. I am a MAC newbie coming from Windows based laptops that i have used for years. The last windows laptop I used for several months and gave to my youngest son was a Gateway FX-7811 which is a gaming laptop. It has a 9800 GT 512MEG card and builds up heat fast. What I am trying to say is I would never ever ever use a laptop for gaming WITHOUT using a laptop cooler first. your laptop needs the ventilation and airflow to cool it . I am amazed how many post I have read where users are apparently using their laptop without one.
If you do your going to have heat issues. And for me I am not going to spend $2000 on a laptop and not take care of it ! Sorry for the long post and thanks for taking the time to read it !!![]()

Congrats man!
but whats you point? -
i think he means he needs a laptop cooler. but conventional laptop coolers do not work on apple laptops as they do not have fans at the bottom. however, you could use equipments such as ilap or griffin elevator. hope this helps.
-
well,it helps a little...but cooler wont help you with GPU problems, since it is architecture problem, not overheating.
-
yeah, that's true and remember not to put the laptop on your laps while gaming as you could suffer from burn due to the heat being released by its components.

best place to read on a cooler. I currently use the Zalman NC2000 for my MBP 15" but plan to upgrade once I find something better. Zalman is geared towards laptops with the fans in the central to lower area's of the laptop, IMHO. -
On my "old" 2.4 unibody MBP I would play 12 hour sessions of GTA4 everyday for 2 weeks during my Christmas break...and it worked fine, until I exchanged it for my 2.53 which I haven't gamed on at all yet because school started again.
I doubt it will affect the laptop much. These things are designed to reach those temps and before the temps reach potentially hazardous levels, the computer will automatically shut down so no permanent damage will ensue. -
^on what settings did you used to play?
-
Not very high. Probably Medium Low.
-
But it was still playable...and mad fun.
-
what about res?cos I have m4400 with latest L2G drivers and it is still unplayable at any res/settings!
