Hi, I was wondering if you change the hard drive, do you have to install the OS again? If so, do they give you the CD so that you can reinstall it with the macbooks?

For a swapping the hard drive, I would recommend coping the data from one drive to another. For these operations, I use Norton Ghost, but any similar program would work well, but that would involve a host computer running the software on both drives simultaneously.

If you want to copy your existing data onto the new HD, you will need an external HD or enclosure, and then use Migration Assistant to copy your preferences etc. over onto the new HD after installing OS X on the new HD.

When I got a new HD, I made a bootable clone of my original on an external and just copied it over with Disk Utility when I installed the new one.

well you said it wouldnt have anything on it, so yes then just use the re-install disks to put the OS on the new drive.

Okay thank you everyone, I'll get a bigger hard drive and just do that. But how much is enough? I'll be running Windows Vista with bootcamp, and im not sre how much space it takes. I'll also might be playing some gaems too. Is 120g or 160gig enough? If so, how much are they?
