Does anyone know a cost-free way of getting the ability to write to NTFS from OSX? PM me if necessary!

I came upon this thread when I scrolled down. It lists a 3rd party plug-in that you can download and install in order to get OS X (particularly Lion) to write to NTFS formatted hard drives.

exFAT is the best way to go if you can reformat your NTFS drives easily.
