Well, I have recently purchased a used black macbook off ebay.
It runs excellently and I have upgraded the ram to 4GB and added a 320GB
7200rpm HD as well. Its a 2.2GHz (Santa Rosa) model. What I need advice on is basically I have started to do allot more work in photoshop and illustrator and am finding the screen a tad small. I do most of my work on the go so don't really want to have an external monitor.
So heres the question, I have been offered a trade for my Blackbook with a 2.16GHz (merom) MBP with a X1600 with 128 DDR3 and 2GB of ram. It would be an even swap and both are in excellent condition. Would I be crazy to do the swap and would the performance be pretty similar. I know the merom has a lower FSB but I'm pretty sure that won't be a big real world performance issue.
Any, what your advice be would you swap?
-
yes, you will get much better screen and the performance is very similar, you will get smoother interface with the MBP coz of the discreet gpu.
there are conditions however...
does the merom MBP still suffer from overheating?
will you up the ram to 4gb also? -
Do it. It's a slight performance drop and the gpu probably won't matter for photoshop/illustrator... but the screen will. The screen is kind of important for graphics work. You can always upgrade the RAM if you need to.

I put no, because I got confused for a moment and thought you were the person with the MBP. Change that to a yes, that would be a good swap.
-
i think yes,it is a good trade
-
I would swap, the MBP has its benefits!
I changed your vote for you, Stunner -
Nope....the MBP is too large for me.
-
but it is not for you,so your "no" vote is not valid
