My 15" MBP is about a year old now, and it's already in (what I would consider) fairly bad shape. I'm not talking about dents or scratches, but rather it seems as if the case is warping on its own. I try to take very good care of it and don't bang it around or drop it, but the durability is pretty bad for a $2000 machine.
Unfortunately this warping seems to be occurring all over out of nowhere- the trackpad has developed 'bulges' in it that are noticeable when running your finger over it, there are gaps between the seam around the top edge of the case, and the worst- the strip of aluminum that is directly above the opening of the slot-loading drive is actually sagging down, and occasionally if the laptop isn't perfectly level, the disc hits the sagging aluminum and gets stuck when trying to eject it!
So, my main questions are-
1. Do you think there's a chance Apple would fix these issues? I don't have AppleCare, and The machine was bought over a year ago, but still- as I said above, these defects aren't merely 'cosmetic'.
2. If not, is there any way that I can purchase the individual casing pieces used on the MacBook Pro? It seems that if I could just get my hands on the top and bottom casing pieces of the base (the screen and screen frame/assembly are fine), I don't think I'd have much trouble replacing them (I've had a bit of experience taking the thing apart since I swapped out the hard drive).
I'm asking about the replacement parts because I've gathered from what I've read/heard that such repairs done by Apple not covered under warranty are quite costly (then again, everything's costly to a student).
Anyway, thanks for any help.

Since you don't have warranty anymore, you're out of luck. After a few months, Apple would say that you caused the problems anyway, unless you get lucky. You could try to bring it to a Genius Bar and see what they say. By the way, this is one of the reasons that they made the new MBPs out of one case part. It'll be cheaper to sell your MBP on eBay and make around $1500 for it and pay the difference for a new MBP (hopefully with some kind of discount) than buying the casing parts separately.

Uhh, I doubt apple would be that bad as michael says. But yea, I'd say its worth a try taking it to the store, if its really weird then it could be a defect and theyd replace it. Though probably youd have to pay for the new parts.
And thats a pretty big step to go and sell the mbp, instead of buying replacement casing. Sure it could be done, but yea.
