    Hi everyone,
I'm looking to upgrade the harddrive in my Santa Rosa Macbook Pro and am currently choosing b/w these two

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000BEVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136314

    Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148336

From what I have been able to gather the 500gb is quieter but has the slower revolution rate and less cache and obviously more space

    Which would you guys choose?

    Thanks in advance!

    Go for the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache.

It's out of stock right now, though NCIX in Canada has it in stock.

I just got a 320g WD 7200, and it is hotter then the stock drive. No question about that.

But I know there is a lot of discussion on the actual speed benefits vs density with 320 7200 and 500 5400 hdds. Maybe someone else can post links to where they talked about it.

If anything, wait a little while longer, because theyre supposed to be releasing 500gb 7200rpm drives sometime this year.

well I was planning on getting this done by an authorized dealer (so I don't void my warranty) over my spring break in March... any idea what the eta of more ubiquitous 0.5 TB 7200 RPM drives?

I thought there was a thread around here recently about some 500gb WD drives not being quiet in MBPs - or was it some other platform - and the cause being unknown (firmware, contact mountings transmitting vibrations, ?) That would make me lean a bit toward the Seagate at the moment.

The 7200 is certainly going to run warmer to some extent, so maybe look at one of their 5400 drives as an alternative?

I just got this hard drive:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822116160

It's quiet and cool, just like the stock Fujitsu drive, but the 7200rpm has added a little vibration. I'm going to see if I can get used to it, but I'm not happy about it right now. You can just kinda feel the body vibrating ever so slightly, and it feels a little weird sometimes.

yeah I'd rather avoid that vibration issue, odds are I'll go w/ the 500gb WD unless amazon gets a shipment of the 7200.4 seagate, then I'll have to see if MBP users are reporting issues.
