    Hello all,

New guy here who just picked up my first MAC. I had it just for a few days and can say I will never be buying a PC again. Anyway, I picked up the black book at BB. I had it for one whole day when I noticed it had some dead pixels so I took it back to BB they told me that they did not have another one in stock and it was going to take week or so to get a replacement. The guy told me I could keep the computer until they received new units to replace mine. Well here's where i need help. They told me they had an open box mac pro that was a return from early this year and that I could have it for the same price or use it till the replacement came in. The black book has a 2.4ghz with more memory. the pro has the 2.2ghz with less memory. I only bought the black book because I don't like the white. I mainly use the computer to e-mail, surf, watch movies and video. Storage space is not to important to me. I called apple and they said they would start the warranty and the 90 days support from the day the computer was bought (mac pro). I have 14 days to make up my mind if i want to keep the pro or trade it in for the new black book. Now here's the question. Would you take an open box last years mac pro over a new in box black book for the same price? Could I take the pro to an apple store to have them look it over to make sure everything is alright with it? would that cost me any money? I am broke see below.

By the way, the girlfriend like the mac so much I bought her one too!

    Sorry for writing a book!

any advice would be great! Thanks

I'd say definitely get a MacBook Pro! If you go to the Apple Store, I'm sure the employees will look over it for you, they're really nice.

I don't think you would run into any problems if you took it to a store. It is their job to help people with stuff like that, and though I don't own an Apple computer I know that their Apple Store support is very good. Good luck!

Are you referring to the MacBook Pro? Or just the Mac Pro? There is a difference, but I'll assume the MacBook Pro... :p

You can't go wrong with the Pro. Since last year's model is still worth about $1500, its a steal. Plus, you'll love the fact it's got dedicated NVidia graphics instead of the Intel X3100 chipset, should you choose to do photo editing with the hardware accelerated version of the new Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Plus, the added screen real-estate with the MacBook Pro is just amazing. The screen is nice and crisp.

Im pretty sure the OP means Mac Pro and not MacBook Pro. Since last year the MBPs have had 2gb ram (when they were updated in June).

Anyways, I would have told them to sign your receipt stating that they owe you a replacement when it comes in. Then you keep your blackbook until they get new ones. Even if it's after the 14 days you'll be able to go back and get it replaced. Get the product you want, and get a new one. I work at BB and you never know where the OB's come from.

As long as you're happy with it - it's a pretty decent deal overall. Nice upgrade. But once again - I reiterate - if you want a black macbook, then get a black macbook! Either way you slice it, it's a lot of cash to drop.

The main reason I bought a Black MacBook instead of a MBP is due to size. A 15" laptop is too big for me, and honestly a 13" is bordering that as well.

Having said that, I wish my MB has a backlit keyboard like the MBP does (yes I know the MBA has a backlit keyboard, however I just can't justify the added expense simply because of it's physical size....the specs just aren't there).

If you aren't concerned with size, then go for the MBP.

Take it in to an apple store and get them to look at it. You should be fine with a 2.2 and the ram can be easily upgraded. But it all comes down to what you want, cus it's your money.

Good you enjoy your MBP 2.2. I am more than happy with mine. How do you like MBP keyboard comparing to the MB one?

The key board is top notch on the MBP. Much better than the regular MB.

Still need some help with this. I just got a email from apple.

Thank you for sending your product's proof of purchase to Apple.

Apple has reviewed your proof of purchase and your request to update the purchase date in our records. Your request was carefully considered. We regret to inform you that your request has been denied.

Your request was denied because the product was purchased as an open-box or demo model.

Your product has the following date of purchase in our records: 02/26/2008

Talked with the store manager At BB who told me he would not charge me a restocking fee and that I could just trade it in if need be.

Should I still keep this thing or trade it in for a new Blackbook. I don't need the memory and I don't like the white.

    Any help would be great.
