I know that I have stated earlier that I wasn't considering the MBP 17 because the lack of portability, and that I already got a 24" Full HD screen.

But the thing is; I might be able to get the MBP 17 for the same price as the highend MBP 15, because of all the hassle etc that occurred.

I feel like, I don't really need the extra screen estate, I already think the 15" is barely portable, but the 17" got a great battery etc.

When it comes to what I'm going to use the computer for; mainly light stuff the coming time, but after that I'm going to start using final cut pro a lot and I know the 15" screen isn't enough for the ui of the program and the 17 is enough.

Wow, I don't really know what to do, I need your advice guys n gals. :)

if you have a 24" screen, get the 15" mbp to retain some portability.

that wont be necessary Xirurg :p if I get the 15" I'll get the discount there also.

I think I'm going for the 15" I enjoy the portability.

Btw is the Wester Digital momentus 500gig a good harddrive? Is it quiet etc?

I think you have already answered your own question.

You are leaning towards the 15" unit which makes sense, since you have a large 24" display. Seems you could have the best of both worlds with the portability of the 15" and the screen real-estate of a desk top with the external display.

p.s. -- Unless you need a "matte" screen which the 15" doesn't offer, ------ then all bets are off !!!!

I would say 15", you already have a nice external display and don't need the large screen real estate.

go for the 15.4". when you use the final cut, connect your lappy to your 24" screen. simple like that! no worry, you have the portability of a 15" lappy and you have the screen estate of the 24" screen..

That battery life thing is killer. I mean if the MBP 17 last like it says it last you are looking at a three hour gap in usage time. That is whats killing me right now.

Get the 15" and use your 24" screen for FCS. Great suite btw I love FCS. And the best reason to buy a Mac!

Thats the reason I'm getting one, I currently have the software but no hardware to run it on. And no I didn't buy it not knowing I couldn't use it for Windows it was given to me by a friend who thought I had a Mac lol.

Well this is whats happened, I wont be needing to use FCP for atleast until next winter, and I'm not in the mood at all for the current MBP at all because of my experiences.

Neither do I think the current generation of hardware in the current notebooks is worth it at all. Current hardware is basically shrinks or minor updates to the same hardware we have seen in the notebooks for 2 years now. I think next fall is when we'll see real improvements across the board with real updates to both the cpus and the gpus.

I did of course already feel like that regarding the hardware when I pulled the trigger, the real reason I guess is that I'm not in the mood to put that much dough after the experiences I've been through, neither do I not have the need for a Pro variant at all at the moment.

So I decided to save 1k euro+ and got the lowest end Macbook alu. Really did not feel at all for getting the Macbook either, I wanted to go for the new XPS series from Dell, but they got really long delivery times, late february etc.

I guess now I have a reason for going Nehalem MBP 17", since I'll already have a computer thats pretty mobile. Might even wait until spring 2010 since I'm not in the mood of taking risks with rev A products anymore. :D

Thanks for your advice and contributions.
