I'm not sure if this is old news, but the new Mac Mini is up on Apple's website.
EDIT: Could a moderator please correct the typo on the thread title?

What on earth...that thing looks...thin.
Ha! They raised the price by $100. Make it thinner, keep the same (or slightly better hardware in it) and raise the price by $100. Yup, that's Apple for you.

Is it just me or is this the first Mac to feature an HDMI port?
-
First Mac to feature an HDMI port!

Nicely done, too bad the store is still down so I can't look at all the options. Who needs Apple TV when you can get the Mini?

Well, it's certainly small. And shiny.
I'll just keep any other comments I have about a Core 2 Duo-based desktop with 2GB of RAM and a 5400RPM HDD that doesn't include a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers being sold for $700 in 20-freaking-10 to myself, because as you may have guessed from the preceding sentence, they are not terribly positive. -
-
Good job trying to contain yourself.
Its not meant to be a powerhouse. If people like it they'll buy, if they don't they won't buy. Simple as that. -
You guys think that the new mini can handle 2 monitors, one in the display port, the other with the hdmi port ?
-
Apple (Canada) - Mac mini - Possibility around every corner. Features of Apple?s smallest desktop computer.
Plenty of ports make it ready for anything.
Mac mini makes things happen. It can connect to any digital display right out of the box. In addition to HDMI, Mac mini comes with both Mini DisplayPort output and an HDMI-to-DVI adapter, so its ready to connect to the Apple LED Cinema Display or a third-party display you already have. You can even connect two displays to see more of your photos, movies, and files. And theres a built-in SD card slot, which makes it easy to grab photos and videos from your digital still or video camera. Mac mini gives you ports galore: four USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 800 port, so you can plug in your keyboard, mouse, iPod, iPhone, iPad, digital camera, DV camcorder, external hard drive, printer, and just about any other device you use. -
Loving the new design. I still think that Apple should have already stepped up to 4GB of ram as a standard across the mac line though. Especially with this price hike. : \
-
$200 more for a iMac :|
-
Nice design...but kinda pricey. HDMI is nice though! I always wondered why Apple didn't bother implementing HDMI.
-
-
the new design is very good... but the price went up...which make it unattractive especially when the US dollars is gaining strength against other major currencies. The iMac 27 inch still worked out to be a better purchase, especially with the high resolution 27 inch IPS LCD.
-
Thumbs down to the increased price.
-
Wow, it took this long to put HDMI in, that and a price hike. I still like the form factor.
-
For them extra $200 Apple should have offered USB 3 or s1600 & s3200
Still like the mini as a htpc with eyetv for DVR functions -
Considering most Mac minis are bought by OS X or iOS developers, this is just a ploy to get a little more cash out of these companies. Whenever a corporation whats to produce an iOS app for marketing or extending their product they buy a Mac mini. Which is why the largest buyers of Mac minis is Microsoft (Office 08).
Considering that the Aluminum unibody is more of a gimmick on this machine, and that it very well could be cheaper to make that the previous mac min (Unibody Macbooks cases cost less to make than the old plastic ones), this is probably going to jack the profit margin on this even higher.
Also, still no blu-ray which cripples it as anything a consumer could use, beyond the vanity of course. I guess Steve was right when he said "We can't build a $500 (at or near??) computer that isn't a piece of junk." I know the mac mini is entry level but its a complete disgrace to the rest of the Mac line.
You can call the iMacs outdated but they have an all in one solution not found elsewhere (plus top of the line displays) that make them well worth the price, but the only thing the mac Mini has is its small.. and.. obscenely expensive and outdated. -
I had a buyer for my '08 C2D Mini today I was supposed to meet after work. I listed it for sale Saturday (no use for it in a house of 2 people w/ 5 laptops and 2 desktops) and he was the 3rd potential buyer but I get an email from him telling me he's wanting the new one at lunch time. Damned thing was already in my trunk boxed and ready to go. Damn you Apple...next Tuesday actually caught up w/ me.
-
Well you knew it was coming on on tuesday... its your own fault...

This is a rip - 2GB of RAM? 320GB HDD? That's atrocious at this price range - especially when you get no keyboard or mouse. The price increase on top of those basement specs is just like a wet slap in the face.
I can't imagine anyone ever buying this over an iMac. Unless they had just smoked 10lbs of peyote at Steve Jobs' house. -
-
I do find it a little bit excessive that Apple doesn't include the remote with the new Mini given its new HDMI out. That's just saying price gouge given the $1000 MBP currently available at Microcenter is just as capable and costs about the same by the time you factor a monitor/keyboard/mouse. Apple must be looking to kill the Mini line. -
It's really tempting especially for someone who is looking for htpc and would prefer osx. The price bump is totally unjustified, but hopefully they will lower it in a few months.

Eh to me at least the same things that make Apple Laptops great do not make Desktop computers great. For example aside from the screen my desktop is hidden so I don't care about appearance for anything but the screen. Once you attach cords to any desktop no matter how great it looks, its not exactly a piece of art. Then size, don't care because I'm not carrying it around. Then energy consumption, I don't care because of no battery to worry about. Unibody construction is great on a laptop, but on a desktop I don't see any advantages as any desktop will not be subject to major outside stresses, it is just going to sit in one place. Plus it just makes it harder to upgrade parts, etc. These are all great features in a portable device, but to me at least don't matter in a desktop. I would rather get an Imac or just get a great windows desktop for $800 or so, or build my own. So I would prefer if Apple made a cheaper, bigger, less attractive mini with higher specs rather then making a display piece.
Of course I don't know very much about computers but that is just my .02. -
And yea, wth is up with no Blu Ray? -
With this price Apple at least can include a faster hard drive, 4 gig ram and remote or just add wireless mouse and keyboard
i want bluray in it!!! damn apple!!!! -
Yeah, where's the Blu-Ray. And can you install Windows 7 on this instead of OSX? It is slick looking, very compact. I like that. Would make a great TV media box, even ability to play games with the GT 320m if you wanted. I would just prefer Windows over OS X.
-
The new mac mini looks great, but as others have said ...
$700 for horrible specs ... should be at least 4g of ram, a 500 gb 5400 rpm hard drive, and maybe even an i3 processor for that price (not sure about the processor, don't know if there are any appropriate form factor boards yet). If not the processor, at least blu-ray, seeing as this seems to be meant to be a media center pc ... -
If they would've kept the price the same, it would've been win and I could've seen the Mac Mini really become a good seller, especially among people who want a first Mac.
But with the price increase it makes little sense to take a Mac Mini over an iMac. -
The new Mac Mini is badly overpriced. By the time I get all the required accesories and 24" Cinema Display, I might as well get an iMac or Macbook Pro. -
Same deal with the mouse and keyboard... you can spend as much or as little as you want.
However, none of that really changes the fact that the Mac Mini is too expensive; I agree with you there. They should've kept it under $600... and preferably less. -
-
The only good thing I see out of this is that Macs are finally going to get native HDMI outputs.
The mac mini was always supposed to be the entry into OSX for those who were curious and didn't want to spend the big bucks doing so.
That's about gone now since the price is just a few hundred away from a macbook that has the same specs and a much more powerful Imac.
