Looks like this was released as well. I was hoping an adapter would also be released at the same time to allow non-thunderbolt systems to use it or the iMac. Oh-well.

Meh. They just added a few ports, with no improvement in any of the specs that matter as far as I can see.

Don't see any reason to upgrade from the old one....

The Store still shows both 27" Cinema displays for sale. If you have a non-Thunderbolt Mac, some of the new ports are unusable anyway since there is no way to get, for instance, Ethernet from a mini display port on an older Mac.

I'm sure the panel is the same, so just buy the MDP model if you have an older Mac.

No I just want the adapter. I have a 2011 iMac that I would like to use as a display for my pc/ps3.

Apple drives me crazy with this outdated faster than you can blink stuff. First my 2008 macbook pro couldn't work with display port, now if you have display port from 2010 it doesn't work with the 2011 thunderbolt display. Apple IMO is the best computer company in the world right now, but it is terribly annoying how fast they expect you to sell your mac and get a new one every 5 minutes something new comes out.

Sony is still #1 in the industry that phases out current hardware in as early as 3 months replacing it with new stuff that may be incompatible with the old stuff.

Right now I see zero reason to get anything with Thunderbolt. It's a great feature to have, especially when you can hook up two displays to something as small as the MBA, but until Thunderbolt gets some traction in the industry or a TB/DP adapter comes out you're basically buying two TB displays for $2000 that might not work with the next generation of hardware when you buy that new computer three years down the road.

That being said Apple pretty much nailed it as far as this refresh goes with TB peripherals. Now we just need some more indicators that TB is going to be here to stay for a long time.

I would love to give the high end MBA a workout with two of the new TB displays :)))))))))

Ironically, chaining 2 displays together doesn't seem to take full advantage of Lion's new features, according to some sources.

Just having one 27" display obviates the need for Lion's vaunted full-screen feature (and apparently there are some issues using full-screen mode with two screens). Plus, the new Mission Control doesn't seem to take full advantage of having 2...

I've always found it a bit hard to use two screens. One is fine. Three is fine. But two...I don't like the asymmetry.

Not that I'd turn one down if one of you fine folk on NBR were to buy me a new TB display though.... :D

Actually there is an interesting point to be had here...would these displays support standard DP1.2 outputs and allow daisy chaining? Forget the other ports on the monitor obviously if one were to do this.

If it worked with other DP products (earlier Macs, other PCs with DP output) that alone would make the monitor one heck of a buy (no other monitor I am aware of supports daisy chaining despite the fact provisions are in the standard for this hugely awesome feature).

Alas the evidence is strong that DP1.2-only operation is not supported; Apple apparently plans to continue to offer the old 27" monitor.
