No. Nobody knows, except for His Jobsness, so go ask him. It is probable, however, that there will be a new MacBook sometime in the future. Nobody knows exactly when though.

i have a feeling apple will go with the slim glossy look along the lines of the new voodoo slim. they got rid of aluminum back for 3G iphone didn't they? making macbook aluminum along with macbook air and macbook pro is kinda gross...

Well, chances are new ipods will roll out in september. So there is a very very low chance new macs could come out next month, but I would say if they aren't out by november, then the most likely time we would see them is macworld 09 in january. But, apple might want them out before the holiday season.

It is highly unlikely we will ever see an aluminum MacBook as long as the MacBook Pro is aluminum.

The problem is that if the MacBook had a 15" screen, video card, backlit keyboard, and was made out of aluminum, it would be a MacBook Pro. It is about differentiation. If you want the features of the pro, you will have to pay for them unfortunately.

I would say its hard to call now. We expected a 13.3-inch prosumer MacBook at Macworld 2008, and that turned out to be an addition to the Mac line as the MacBook Air rather than a MacBook replacement. So with that set, I don't think the MacBook will turn aluminum, as that's set for "professional" Mac products. With the way Apple seems to have headed, if you want a professional Mac laptop, its either the MBA or MBP.

whats professional about MBA...? A prosumer 13.3 MBP would sell like hot cakes, and the technology is certainly there to allow such an product.

Well, if you're an executive for a corporation, walking into a meeting with a MacBook Air looks more professional than walking in with a white MacBook :D.

But yeah, the MBA is professional as a "secondary" computer. If you have a powerful computer at home or in the office, its an excellent companion computer for taking to meetings or such, if you can afford that sort of thing.

yeah, but its kind of rediculous to market yourself as an consumer oriented company and then offer a computer with the performance of a 500$ pc laptop, for 2,5k $ here in sweden.

Most people cant really afford to have a powerful computer and also a worthless note-taking laptop such as the air, its a nieche product for the rich kids to look cool with. Macbook Pro is worth its price even though its about 200% the price of an equivelant dell here, because it actually offers all-around performance which the note-taking air doesnt.

I remember when the air first got introduced at MW08, like always I fell for his steveness charms and got hyped about the air and started pondering about if this was the next product for me to buy, but then I saw the sick price, and also I had to buy an addon drive for it and an usb adapter and an wireless router to even use it, so at that time the cost of me buying it was estimated to about 3.5k$.

I love Apple, but Im really sick of the direction the company is taking lately, theyre prices are outrageous, and they constantly produce worse and worse products lately when it comes to terms of quality.

And Ive wanted to get a new cell phone forever and thought the iphone would be the perfect replacement to my dinousaur of a phone the SE Z1010, and like the chum I am I believed steve when he said 200$ for an iphone 3G.

And now I see the cheapest alternative for us in sweden costs us 8000kr about 1200$. Im amazed how this company is even growing, specially when it comes to theyre notebook lines which are considered as jokes here in sweden.

The MacBook Air is definitely a very targeted market, nowhere close to the larger appeal of the MacBook and MacBook Pro.

And I share your iPhone annoyances, Rogers here in Canada has ridiculous pricing too. I will have to say that's more the carriers than Apple's fault (I've heard Apple's quite angry at Rogers too and now is redirecting some shipments from Canada to Europe).

trust me, A LOT of people purchase MBP because they hate the disgusting plastic look of MacBooks. if they made MacBooks light and aluminum then they have no reason to buy MBPs.

well sam, I think its more of Apples fault when it comes to the choice of the carrier in sweden, telia is the most expensive and least popular carrier here in sweden because of theyre outrageous prices, and theyre iphone pricings are just a big joke, even the swedish media talks about these fiasco pricings.

But I guess Apple knew these pricings would generate them more income, and the things you say about apple being angry at rogers etc is just a rumor, and I dont trust rumors, no company is stupid enough to not know the capacity/reputation/tactics of theyre suppliers.

Well if there are mutiple carriers capable of supporting the iphone, I dont think that apple would just randomly choose one. I'm sure that theres some kind of payoff between the carrier and apple.

Either when actually choosing the carrier, or to how much % they get off of monthly contracts.

But either way, having more money will only help when a new product comes onto the market, and only one company can have it.

On the whole aluminum macbook thing, I'm surprised no one has made an aftermarket shell replacement for the macbooks. I'm sure it would sell, although it would take a bit of work to change. Maybe something along the lines of what colorware does, but itd be cheaper since they're not actually painting the thing.

But honestly, they have cases for all other gadgets, im suprised it hasnt happened for laptops yet.

Well, I guess I don't know about Sweden, but here in Canada, Rogers Wireless is the only GSM/3G network provider (the rest are CDMA), so Apple either went with Rogers or there would be no iPhone at all in Canada.

of course there is some sort of payoff for apple, teliasoneras high pricing will benefit apple because apple made a exclusivity deal with them so they could get a high % I would guess, today on the news I read that insider sources say that telia has a 3 month exclusivity agreement with apple, so I guess Ill be ditching my Z1010 when tele2 or some other carriers release it.

So kinda back to topic, do you guys see it to be likely that apple will announce new MBP/MB this month? You would think that if they were there would be some sort of rumors going around anyways..

I personally dont think the outlook is so good for new models coming soon, nvidia is having major problems with new gpus, and I dont think apple started dealing with ati yet which is sad because they offer a better mobile solution atm(radeon3800), intel had the problem with montevina etc, but the first boards/processors were supposed to start showing up in july, but dunno I just dont see them releasing this month.

I doubt I would buy one of the new models anyways if there isnt a redesign, will end up waiting for nehalem if thats the case. Current MBP design in all its glory is outdated, dull, and got issues like easy denting and the sucky latch.

Thing I would personally like to see for the next MBP is, hdmi, full hd 15" screen, a new and worthy gpu(jesus christ how the f did they stick with this crap gpu(8600gt) for two years), a redesign of the chassis, better power saving options like turning off the dedicated gpu and allowing the dedicated gpu to take over, blu-ray, and SSD option.

Well everyone has a list of what they want in the MBP or MB.
Usually everyones is different, and thers things that many users will not use, and some that they will.

The thing is that now that the student discount is on, I highly doubt they'll release a new one until the discount is over. It makes sense that they use the student discout to offload all of the older models. So then they have lots of new models to sell, with minimal old stock.

The new Macbook coming out this winter will have an aluminum design, 13,3" LED screen with 1280*800, Montevina chipset with integrated graphics. It will weigh around 1,8-1,9 kg. (remember I was the first one who told you ;))

Pros want dedicated graphics and a higher resolution screen.

a lot of apple products have glossy finish. but yeah glossy finish does scratch easily, just ask anyone who owned LG's piano black finish notebook. you have to admit though that voodoo looks amazing and apple always makes amazing looking products :p

Yeah, I like glossy back looks, but its not practical...scratches ruin it, and scratches are easy to get. I don't really like the somewhat glossy back of my white MacBook lid either, but at least the white lid conceals the scratches better.
