I wish Apple would ditch the use of aluminum cases on laptops completely. I would have bought a MBP instead of my XPS if it wasn't for the case. I don't want a $2500 laptop wrapped in a weak aluminum case. I'm a truckdriver and my lappy goes everywhere I do. If I was to drop a MBP like my others have it would distort/bend the case instead of a scratch. Put a strong case on the MBP and I'll buy it.

Well, there's the answer for yah :D. I would say Macs wouldn't be targeted at "rougher" users at all, say the army or truck drivers and such. For those, definitely the more well-built notebooks like Lenovo Thinkpads or Panasonic Toughbooks are a good idea.

I have a Dell 8200, a HP dv5210, and a XPS 1710. They have all been plenty tough(except for the sloppy screen hinges and flexy chassis on the HP). Don't get me wrong, I would love to buy a MBP but for the case. I am thinking about selling the 8200 and HP and buying a black macbook.

Do the current MacBooks (non-pro) support the new track-pad gestures?

I assume that the free iPod promotion is to help clear inventory and make room for the new models. That being said, I don't really expect to see anything new until after this promotion is over (September 15). I hope I'm wrong. Here's hoping for an earlier release and for a 13" (or smaller) MBP.

Yes, its a double bonus, really...Apple usually releases new iPods in September or October, and it helps Apple clear out older inventory like this, but at the same time its also a nice promotion to entice people to purchase Macs for school. So double bonus.
