I read where Apple has issued a new screen for the Macbook 13". It is supposed to be an impovement to the existing one. Does anyone know if it is as good as the screens on the Macbook Pro's?

To answer your question, IMO I think that the new screens are as good as the ones on the MBP.
My local BestBuy has got the MB & MBP displayed right next to each other. I must have spent 30 mins on them a couple of days ago comparing the screens (black levels, viewing angles, etc.) & I came to the conclusion that they are exactly the same, the differences being only the screen sizes. The screen on the MB is a 9CA8 (AUO) & the screen on the MBP is a 9C85 (Chi Mei).
Anyway, the following thread may also help you out:

I looked at the macbook air and I think the viewing angles on that are poor, while viewing angles on the macbook pro to be excellent. How did you find the vertical viewing angles to be on the new screen of the new macbook alum. 13"? Would you say they are the same as the air or pro?

I can't complain with my 9c89. I'm quite happy with it.
