Apple's online store loads just fine as of 8:15 a.m. CDT, both the primary site and the one I access for the employee purchase plan through my company. No changes at all.

I've learned that pretty much anything like this reported on Gizmodo is about as valuable as Zimbabwe's currency.

Not only that but the latest "reports" are saying that the quad-core Core i7 Ivy Bridge setup (which will be the first out the door with dual-core variants to follow in the coming months) is going to be in Windows PC first and then get to Apple.

I've been holding out on ordering one because of all the rumors. Let's hope they're all true and something does come out very soon. :)

Looks like the Rumor was bunk, obviously..

I would think that a radical Re-design of the MBP would have a launch event of some type.. Perhaps in conjunction with the iPhone 5 release?

Yeah, I noticed it was down for a few as well. Probably just shoring up some stuff on the backend. I would be shocked if they just released it without a big announcement for as large of an upgrade that is. Plus, the big announcement would help offset the attention from Ultrabooks.

As far as Ivy being Windows first... I feel conflicted on that. On one hand, Intel is trying to get windows based laptop manufacturers on board for ultrabooks, so first release would be good incentive to get them on board. On the other hand, recent releases have seemed to favor Apple first. Tough call.

no one knows whether the next mbp release will be major or not. it's likely to get an ivy bridge cpu, which is a relatively minor cpu upgrade compared to previous upgrades.

Compared to Sandy Bridge(according to sources):

    5% to 15% increase in CPU performance[18]
20% to 50% increase in integrated GPU performance[18]

next big bump should be haswell

It is still possible they get the new nvidia GPUs that are like twice as fast though isn't it? That would be pretty cool...

unknown: Apple drops Nvidia Kepler from large numbers of laptops | SemiAccurate

and for the sake of us media creators and video editors who need GPGPU acceleration I bloody well hope no kepler cards show up!. they made it purely a gaming card ( and FYI their not twice as fast gaming 580-680=20-25% boost)

Nvidia cripples GPGPU in Geforce GTX 680 - The Inquirer

for MAYA, MASSIVE, Photoshop , Premier Pro, AVID DS etc alot of ppl are finding them a bit slower than the older cards

Best advice, IMO, (since historically I've refreshed Apple's website hourly when close to product releases) is to ignore the blog sites, get interested into something else to occupy your time and most of all, "Don't Over-Expect" in terms of what new features you think will be in the new MBP's, you'll end up being underwhelmed. :)

They will make it up on the Quattro Cards. I think that is the plan, to differentiate the higher-margin Professional cards. Make them a bigger draw for professionals and charge triple for them.

as usual,( no more proper softmodding for 2 years ) but there is no bloody way Apple will put a Quadro in a MBP ( not even a CTO option for Mac Pro ). but even CUDA is taking a big hit with kepler which is bad for content creators etc. making any kepler based 600 card a downgrade for those of us that can use it or need it

Its easy to believe that kepler does worse at business 3d than the amd equiv. version, but worse than the last gen ones in the current pros? Is it really that bad?

yes, kepler 680 desktop card vs 560ti was about 20% slower in CUDA acceleration in mercury render engine ( premier pro ) MASSIVE, MAYA, 3DsMAX and Photoshop 6. one CAD app was closer to 60% down. ( I think solidworks )

With Apple's Pull, you never know, they could offer a special version, since content creation is a major use on the MBP.

true, but to put a good quadro in a MBP would easily add $3000+ to base cost and couldnt be cooled in the thin and light form factor of even the 17"( think an OC'd 480 stuffed in an ASUS K53). but as Apple seems to be abandoning the pro creators the last few years.... could be another step on that path

if anything we may see super expendsive thunderbolt external quadros ..... negating the portability

True. With all of the talk of the Pro being an extension of the Air Family.. they may just opt for a small-potatoes GPU and force people to spend their money on the Desktops. What a step backwards.

not all quadro cards are high end high power- the quadro cards run the range of performance and power (and heat) just like the geforce line. they also don't all cost thousands of dollars, but they are more expensive than the geforce parts.

In any case, I don't see why they would suddenly switch to quadro cards when they have never shown any interest in doing that before.
